The current Outlaw amp sale (and the 7075 in particular) cropped up on CNET today , in a column by Steve Guttenberg with a suggestion on how to spend that Economic Stimulus check. Nice little blurb - and the 7075's current sale price is a convenient fit for the tax return (especially with the free shipping).

Gonk, how do you like the new 983H? I'm still using my original 971H from Oppo but it's being moved to a bedroom system. So I'm shopping for a new player and I'm not ready to make the jump to an HD player, I don't think the value is there yet vs. up-converting.

My 983H review gives all the nitty-gritty details, and I've got a comparison review that looks at the 983H alongside the 980H and 981HD (which offers performance nearly identical to the 971H). The bottom line, though, is that the 983H is pretty darn close to as good as you can get with standard DVD - regardless of price. You'll get the most benefit from it if you have a large screen (my 32" HDTV is not really the 983H's target market) and it's a bit pricey for a 2008 DVD player, but the cost is justified by what's under the hood. I suspect that mine will be in the equipment rack for a lot of years to come, as I don't know when I'm likely to find a standalone Blu-ray player that could reasonably match it.

Thanks Gonk. I did read your excellent review and of course the Secrets review and I don't really think it's expensive given it's features and performance.
I like the look of it and the aluminum front is classy compared with the other Oppo players.
I wonder if Outlaw is planning a Blu-ray player, now that would be cool!
