Hello, first time poster here smile

I'm a long time Paradigm owner who had Studio 60 v.2 and recently upgraded to Studio 100 v.4s. Side-by-side, I'm finding that the 100s have a brighter, more forward sound.

My old 110wpc wasn't up to the task of driving the larger speaker setup, so I sprung for the 990+7700 b-stock deal. Right now I have the 7700 hooked up via the Yamaha's pre-outs. The 990 hasn't been delivered yet.

This combo sounds worlds better than what I was running before, and I've had no shortage of compliments from friends listening. It's very clear, very detailed.

However... right now I'm not sure I'm getting the sound I'm really after. I guess I was looking for something a bit warmer sounding all together.

Are my results consistent with others experiences? Has anyone else paired this amp with Paradigm v4s (I didn't get any hits on search)?

Will a notice a difference with the 990 as a source rather than Yamaha? Any other source options I should be taking into account?

Thanks for your help!

I haven't heard the v4 Studios - like you, I used to own Studio60v2 (mine are actually about to relocate to Oregon soon, actually), but I haven't had a chance to listen to the newer generations of those speakers. The 990 will likely have an impact compared to your Yamaha, so that's probably the first place to start in getting the sound where you want it. I'm going to make a sweeping generalization for a moment, so forgive me, but the 990 may be more neutral than your Yamaha if my recollection of Yamaha receivers is accurate. That may take some of the brightness away, without sacrificing detail or clarify.

Alright, I was able to pick up the 990 from FedEx on the way home tonight. I haven't had much time to fiddle around with it yet, but out of the box it blew away the processing I was getting from the Yamaha.

I can't wait to play with it more tomorrow.

A new concern I have at the moment, is that I'm intending to bi-amp the studio 100s (5.1 setup), and I have not found a way yet to redirect a second set of the balanced outputs to the front for bi-amping.

I also have a friend bringing over their amp+pre/pro from a comany that I shall not name at the moment to do some comparisons. That should be interesting as well.

As a first timer moving from reciever to amp+pre/pro, I'm now a believer. It makes a huge difference.

Hitting another problem now... auto setup isn't working =\ I have the mic clearly attached and in position, I run auto setup, I hear the loud noise... and it tells me that my amp isn't on or no speakers are attached. Hm...

There is not a way. If you want to biamp using balanced connections, you can get XLR splitters - I haven't looked for them in a while, but I know they are out there.

If it isn't hearing the test tones at all, that sounds like either a mic connection problem (I assume you've disconnected it and re-connected it again to be sure it was seated in the port correctly) or a hardware issue. Might be worth a call to Outlaw on Monday if fiddling with the microphone connection doesn't solve it. In the meanwhile, do you have a sound meter?

Yes, I've tried reseating the mic connection, restarting the components, etc. No dice. I might be able to find a friend with a meter laying around today.
