First off. I know and understand that the 2.4GHz wireless spectrum is unlicensed and any/all interferance to that said spectrum is completely legal. I'm not upset about that in anyway, I'm just trying to fix my sanity.

In talking with my Dad and him quizzing me about the 'i didn't change anything on the computer' he reminded me of my recent upgrade to the 7700 from the 7125. So far that is one of the few things I've done that we can locate that was 'changed' in the last month.

Basically my wireless network has gone to crap for performance and connectivity. The wireless gateway is right below the bonus room where I put the theater stuff in, there is a repeater in the theater room that I can no longer 'see' on the network even when standing next to it with a laptop.

For lack of a better description there appears to be a 'black hole' in my house now that wasn't there. The 7700s arrival/installation appears to be close to then. Is there a big magnet, or EM field generated by that much power ? I mean the thing weighs a ton so it wouldn't surprise me. I can run wires around the area to combat it but before I go to the effort I just want to figure out what is causing this.

If you shut down the 7700 and leave it off for a while (maybe turn it off tonight and leave it off until tomorrow evening) so the capacitors can discharge, you could see if the "black hole" disappears and you get your wireless back - if the laptop still can't connect, I would tend to rule the 7700 out.

would I unplug it too? or leave it on standby? Or just flicking the big power switch on the back be enougH?

You could unplug it or flip the master power switch if you wanted to. I wasn't thinking about it being in a standby mode since my trigger cuts power off to my amps. You might do the standby mode test first, and if that doesn't make the "black hole" go away you could also totally shut the amp down to see if it's doing something while in standby mode.

maybe the thing failed because of the power being pulled by the 7700. i doubt it would interfere with a wireless network any other way. electronic devices fail all the time for various reasons. someone could be jacking your network too.

no one is jacking my network, unless they can crack WPA and guess a 64 random generated alphanumeric password that I've generated new 4 times in the last 5 days troubleshooting this. (Key courtesy GRC.com)

oh and the WAP in question is on a completely different power circuit than the amp is.

I am really interested in hearing the diagnosis. I am ready to purchase the 990/7500 combo and live on the wireless network. I have two repeaters in the house so that I can work in the basement (where the new HT will be) and out back on the patio. I have threee laptops that float around the house. If you don't solve it I will be able to give you input in about two weeks.

That is kinda weird.

I have a 990/7700 combo and a wireless network. I also have a Squeezebox 3 that uses my wireless connection to access songs in my computer and Internet radio. The 7700 is on the bottom of the component rack and the Squeezebox is on the top. Never had a problem with either the Squeezebox or my laptop connecting to the network.

What do you think of the squeezebox? A friend of mine has been periodically sending me teasers about them, but I've yet to hear one for myself. I've got a couple of terabytes of music on a RAID array already and need to find a better way to integrate things with my audio system.
