For anyone that has bought a 970 recently, what are your initial impressions? I recently and regretfully sold my 990 and swapped it out for a B&K AVR307 receiver while downsizing our home theater. I like the B&K sound, but it annoys me how you get the loud relay switching sound when switching sources. Does the 970 make any clicking sounds when switching sources? I'm considering selling the B&K and buying a 970 or something similar if anyone has any suggestions. I would have this paired with an Acurus A125x5 amplifier and Energy C6 main speakers. Thanks, Rob

My 970 does not make any noises when switching sources. I bought my 970 brand new at the end of may this year along with a used outlaw 755 200x5 amplifier and so far I have had no problems. The sound for movies is great a big upgrade from my old 1050. Music also sounds good, very full and dynamic, with a lot of detail. I have heard the 990 with a similar set up and I do think the 990 sounds a bit better with music, but almost the same quality for movies.

Gunslinger - Thanks for the reply. I know you haven't owned your 970 a long time, but it seems that early 970 may have been buggy. I assume that isn't the case anymore. Is that correct? Did the firmware update address these bugs?

My 970 doesn't make noise when switching between formats, though there is a delay when the 970 is making signal acquisition, noticably more so than the 990. It is a very good performer for both audio and movies.

I believe the latest updates have taken care of all or most of the buggs or maybe I have just been lucky, but I have not heard of anyone having any major problems recently. At least any that were not due to human error.

Hello Rob B! This is my first post and I am a new Outlaw. I purchased the 970/7125 combo in July to replace a Yamaha receiver that disappointed us for some time. Our 970/7125 has been getting a workout daily since the day it has arrived for music, movies and TV. When my wife and I arrive home from work it's music time while we cook together and we crank it up! It sounds absolutely awesome and blows away our Yamaha RX-V1800 that it replaced. After dinner we watch TV with the 970 in Pro Logic II-cinema mode and it is just great with the way it handles the audio. On the weekends, it's home theater time. We love action movies and the 970/7125 delivers in spades. It's going on 4 months of daily heavy use and we have not had any problems, bugs or hiccups at all. The stuff works flawless and is worth every dime.

Thanks everyone for all the replies !! As I stated earlier, I regretfully sold my 990 and I'm thinking the 970 may be a good replacement. I also sold my B&K EX4420 (200 watts/ch) and I think that may be part of equation as well. So I think I may sell the B&K AVR307 and look at getting a 970 and another 2 channel amp. At the same time, I've downsized slightly more to fit our families usage.
HStevens-Congrats on your first post !!

Had the 970 almost a year. no issues at all. no clicks either. It is used for music only and is in a harsh environment, no A/C or heat in the workshop. I love it.

First Post!
I recently purchased a 970 and use it as a 2 channel preamp only(plus sub). I love it. it takes digital coaxial line out of my PC and rocks the house. i also have a tv hooked up to it but havent stopped jamming out long enought to even watch it! it does have some delay locking on to the signal when i first hit play but has no issues there after.
Im running a Outlaw 970> Adcom GFA-145> Martin Logan Preface Loud speakers + Paradigm PS1200 modified subwoofer. my house has never been the same.

First Post Also.
I've had my 970 for a little over a year and have these tidbits:
1. I turned Auto Pol OFF as it sometimes created delays when switching audio tracks on DVDs. This was pointed out elsewhere in this forum.
2. I had no center channel and set the center width to create the virtual center using the mains. My CD input was set to 7-channel stereo. If I changed the CD to any other stereo mode setting I couldn't get it back to 7-channel stereo, only 6-channel stereo. The problem was that the channel it decided to cut out was one of the rear surrounds NOT the center channel. Tech support confirmed this was how the 970 operates.
3. I get a little hum out of the 7075 when it turns on but it goes away as it warms up. Say 5 or 6 seconds.
Other than that its been pure listening bliss.
