Hi All,

First post here. My 970 just got in today. Looking forward to setting it up in my shop.
I have two NAD C272 and four JBL 29 AV-1 speakers. I will post the results here later and questions if needed.

Thanks,

RC

Just as I expected. It sounds great. I am very happy with it. It will be a music only system. Only have one NAD C272 right now. The other one gets in early next week. Even with one running two of the JBL's it beats the pioneer 918 that was there and it had all four hooked up. The pioneer sounded very good too but this combination is definately cleaner and less distortion. Distortion is actually almost non existant. I can't wait to install the second NAD C272 off of the surround channel. I was listening to John lee Hooker, Papa Mali, RL Burnside, Zydeco Dots and Jim Suhler mix and it never sounded better.
My set up is a Yamaha DV-C6860 DVD 5 disc player. I am using the digital out. (Setting up the source was very easy.)The cabinet I am using is a commercial merchant rollaround, has giant castors and a glass section on top. A old CRT TV and VCR sit on top. TV is for navigating the mp3 menu and slideshows if I put jpg's on the CD with the mp3's. I will post a pic if possible.
I did not do any calibration with a SPL meter. I will be all over the shop, so I just positioned the speakers until I achieved the best sound in a 10'x10 square in the center of the 30'x40'shop. The invisi-ball mount on the jbl's made this a breeze.

Beer Me,

RC

Today I have my Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop hooked up to the 970 via a Behringer u-control box using the optical out to 970's optical 4 in.
It is freakin sweet.
the 9100 laptop is a tank at 9+ lbs. but it uses a desktop cpu. a badassed laptop for this application on the cheap.

Cheers Outlaws.

Just wanted to add that after listening awhile with the laptop. I find that it is far better than the DVD player. Sound is very clean. Even at 0 or into the +'s. No distortion. I love this setup.
I think I will put laser pointers on the speakers so I can aim them exactlly where they need to be. Or borrow Pink Floyds special spoon.

Update:
I got the 2nd NAD C272 yesterday and installed it last night.

I am not sure if I did this right. First I hooked it up to the "left and right surround back" but got nothing. Could not get the speaker size to change from NONE. So I hooked it up the the "Surround Left and Right" and was able to change the speaker size to "Large". I could get music out of the back speakers but only in the surround modes. I wanted 5 speaker surround but only regular stereo was available. So as an experiment I set the "left and right surround back" to "small" even though there are no speakers there at all. Now the 5 and 6 speaker stere is available and sounds awesome. Please inform me if there is a better way. But I am not sure it could sound any better. I am loving this sound system. While playing Sinatra's fly me to the moon, I could of swore he was in my shop. Thanks a bunch Outlaw.

I have gotten to the point where MP3's at any rate just dont cut it anymore. WMA Lossless format is what I like now. Now to get a huge hard drive and start the ripping angain. This will be the 3rd time to rip my library of CD's.
I am dreading the task in a way. I started to notice the difference a while back but now it just drives me nuts sometimes. MP3's just seem a little rough on the edges. Not all but most. SACD's blow me away. Wish I could rip those.

A 970 with two nads sounds like a manly system, indeed.

I am stating to wonder if I blew the compression drivers on my JBL 29AV-1's. Maybe it just my ears or imagination. But I do detect some roughness in the voice range. Not always though.
Last weekend I did play Stevie Ray Vaughn's Say What! turned up to 0 for a few minuets and +7 for just a couple of seconds. I suppose a Ohms test on the drivers will determine if it is in my head or if they are actually slightly blown. What other things can I test / inspect to diagnose the health of the speakers?
