Question - can I run a Phantom Center and enable DD or DTS? Or am I forced to use Pro Logic IIx?

The same goes for the upcoming 997 - will I not be able to use DD/DTS if I'm running a Phantom Center?

I have my cc in storage as there is no space for it in the equipment rack. I am timing my purchases as I would prefer to upgrade to the 997 before I purchase a Plasma to mount (making room for the cc on the tv stand).

I might be making 2 large purchases (3 if I jump on the Oppo BP-83) in the coming months.

Yes, you can use DD and DTS with a phantom center - and the 997 should be able to do the same. All that the processor does is decode the DD or DTS as usual and then redirects the center channel in to the left and right channels.

Thanks gonk! As always, you are wealth of information.

I just need to play with the menus again, I some how missed it the first time around. I guess that means I can delay my Plasma purchase for the new models coming out...

All you have to do is set the center to "off" and the 970 will take care of the rest.

thanks gonk! I think I wasn't given the option when I was playing with it earlier because I wasn't receiving a digital signal at those times. I put in a dvd last night and then was given the option. now all is good.

still waiting for fox to go digital here....

Thanks!
