I upgraded from a 950 to a 970 to be able to video and audio switch to a new Sony HDTV. I also bought a PS3 to use as a Blu ray player. However, the PS3 would not display 1080p, just 1080i. I've also had issues with my HD cable box. When I switch inputs back to the cable box, I get no video and have to shut everything off and turn everything back on. Has anyone else had these problems?

How do you have your video connections made? (Component, DVI, ...) And what model of Sony do you have?

The HD cable box issue sounds like an HDCP handshake problem. I've luckily not run into that with my cable boxes, but that particular family of devices is rather notorious for being ill-behaved.

Yep, I've had similar issues with HD cable boxes from Comcast and Verizon. My current Verizon FiOS TV Motorola DVR is connected via component because of a similar issue.

Usually you don't need to turn everything off though, you can just change the input on the TV from current to non-HDMI back to what it needs to be and you should get signal.

There's no reason to use HDMI (at least that I can think of) to connect your cable box to the TV. Component works just as well and doesn't have all the headaches.

As for the first part of your question,I would make sure your TV is 1080P capable to get the PS3 to display 1080p on your TV. For the second question I have a Comcast motorola HD cable box and have not had the trouble you have mentioned although like BIG I use component cables to connect my cable box to my 970.

Moving to the component output of the cable box would resolve the issue with (based on the cable boxes I've used with my HDTV) no loss in picture quality, although if those are your only two sources I can see where using the 970's DVI switching could be a definite convenience (if the cable box would behave itself). HDCP really can be a pain...

I hadn't checked my post in a while. My TV is a 60" Bravia LCoS RPTV (didn't feel the need to pay the extra for the XBR version), and is 1080p. When I set up the PS3, it would not run 1080p through the HDMI to DVI cable I bought from Outlaw. I've since connected the PS3 directly to the TV, and it now sends a 1080p signal to the TV. I believed the hype about HDMI so I connected my Comcast cable box directly to the TV as well. No A/V switching any more (I guess I could have stuck with the 950 at this point, so I spent an extra $800 on the 970 and the cables).
