I just tried to play some music using aux mode and optical 2 and got no sound.
I use this mode for my Itunes air express....thought it might be the source, so I tested Itunes and it was working fine on my macbook. Then I tried a standard TV transmission using optical 1 and got no sound, even after turning the unit off and on. Also, I was getting no response from the volume button on the remote or the unit itself. Then I tried the digital coax CD mode and it worked. So, I turned everything off and on again, and all is working. But, this is bothering me.....never had anything like this happen on my older multi mode Yamaha and it was only $400, and I've only had the 970 for a month or so.....is this an indication of more problems to come and the no sound problem everyone is talking about? A couple of times I also experienced a stutter in the audio when I initiated recorded programing off of my DVR....something else the Yamaha never did. For a new product, this is troubling.

In the meantime, be sure to turn the "Auto-polling" feature off on your Aux input if it is connected via optical exclusively. The factory default settings leave that feature set to "on" which may be exacerbating your issue.

I will call in on Thursday when I have more time available. I appreciate your prompt reply. Auto pollimg was already set to off on both modes when this occured.
