I use my 970 in a 5.1 configuration - so, I do not have back surround speakers connected and I have them set to none in the "Speaker Size" menu.

My DirecTV receiver is the only source that uses PLII processing, and as I cycle through Dolby settings, I can choose PLIIx-C,M and X. I have it connected with an optical digital cable and with analog interconnects and with either input I can cycle to PLIIx.

Page 13 of the manual reads, "You can only use it when you've got back surround speakers connected... ". Page 5 reads, "Pro Logic IIx converts stereo sound to 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 channels...".

So I'm confused... should I even be able to cycle to the PLIIx processing if I do not have back surrounds configured? Is PLIIx-C any better than the PLII-C for my non-Dolby Digital sat tv sound?

Thanks for the help....

Pro Logic IIx does everything that Pro Logic II does, just with the added ability to extend itself out to six or seven channels. In the case of a 5.1 setup, you can still use PLIIx with two-channel sources. It's only those 5.1 sources which are already using all of the available channels of your system without any additional matrix processing which you will be unable to select a "DD+PLIIx" or "DTS+PLIIx" mode.
