1st question is I have a DTV hr10-250 connected to my 970 via hdmi>dvi, then the dvi>hdmi to my tv. (all outlaw cables)

When I watch a hdtv program that say it is broadcast in Dolby 5.1, I can not get the 970 to display 3/2.1 in any of the surround modes. Instead I will get Prologic with a 2.0 on the display. What is up with that? My assumption is I'm getting a dolby sound but in 2.0 right? How do I make it 5.1?

2nd question or observation, when switching sources like watching tv to watching dvd then going back I get a picture but the color is really washed out and bright. I switch back and forth from each source a couple of times and the right video color comes back. What this? just a little glitch or are the cables bad? Anybody else have this problem?

Just some thoughts.
thanks mike

First question: how is your audio connected from HR10-250 to the 970? You will need to have a digital audio cable (coaxial or optical, doesn't matter which) to the 970. You will also need to have the HR10 set to output a digital bitstream in order to deliver that Dolby Digital 5.1 signal to the 970. If it is set to "PCM" then it will decode the Dolby Digital (be it 2.0 or 5.1) and downmix to stereo, then output a PCM stereo signal.

I'm not so sure about the second question - no obvious explanation is occurring to me. Does it happen when switching from an analog video source (XBox, PS2, or Sony DVD) to the digital video source (HR10), or does it happen when switching between analog sources as well?

sounds to me like this could be as simple as a HDCP handshake issue through your HDMI connection ...but I could be way off.

Gonk,

My video problem happens when I go from DVD player to sat box. or vicea vera. My audio is connected by an optical cable, so I will check my sat box settings. The video thing is annoying, man I wish they made an hdtv source that carried all the NFL, all the possible HDTV channels not some, and had tivo DVR, oh yeah and a great video scaler to give the best picture possible. DTV sucks! wrong foreum I guess.

Later,
mike

It's happening when changing from the TV's component input to the HDMI input (or the other way around). Can you fix the problem by flipping between inputs on the TV, or do you have to change inputs on the 970?
