I have 2 questions. First one is how do you know if your firmware is upgraded? I just bought the 970 2 weeks ago. My assumption is it is updated. But when switching channels or switching sources (ie:video 2>video 3)I sometimes get load pops or at times I will get super low level sound with audio snow (loud) over the audio. I counter this by switching the surround mode.

Second question is on the osd there are 2 lines right and left. On the screen left there is a 2.0 or sometimes a 3/2.0 displayed. What is that? I assumed it was speaker config. but lately I'm not sure becasue sometimes its optical output on audio and it displays 2.0, then other times it is optical output and it displays 3/2.0. What is it?

I love the 970 there are many things I like about this system but the little things start to add up, please help.

Mike

There's a command to display the current firmware version on your TV with a little menu pop-up (need to be on a video input that uses s-video or composite, like the front input). With the unit turned on and set to an appropriate video input, press menu and mute buttons on the front panel at the same time. That will tell you what the firmware version is.

Whenever the 970 acquires a new digital audio signal (such as changing from disc menu to program on a DVD, switching inputs on the 970, or even changing channels between a Dolby 2.0 station and an HD channel with Dolby 5.1), the display will briefly identify what the incoming signal's format is before switching back to displaying what the current processing mode is. That signal format will be listed as 48kHz PCM (for sources like CD's) or some form of Dolby Digital or DTS. The Dolby and DTS signals will have a series of numbers identifying how many channels are included in the signal. The format for that is x/y.z, with "x" representing the front three channels (left, right, and center), "y" representing the side surrounds, and "z" representing the LFE track. So "3/2.1" is a 5.1 channel signal (Dolby or DTS), while "2/0.0" is Dolby 2.0 (left and right channels only).

Somebody with a 970 (or Outlaw support) may be better able to say than I, but the data file for the latest ("beta") firmware version has the file name ot970051206.hex (1070 version would probably be called ot1070051206.hex), and I think the "051206" part is a date that would appear in the firmware version number somewhere - that may be where the "060511" comes from, with the 1320 being the specific version number.

Thanks for the help, I have been trying to logon to CS with outlaw, but there seems to be an error on there sever. But by your description it sounds like I have the wrong firmware installed. I have a 970 not the 1070 av reciever. I'm interested in knowing if any other 970 owners have firmware that starts with a ot1070? I will keep trying to contact outlaw CS.

thanks,
mike
