I know I saw this somewhere but now can't find it. How do you get the 970 to display the it's current firmware? Thanks.

I found this in some old notes on my hard drive. Turn the 970 and TV both on and switch to the front video input (this makes sure you'll have your OSD po-up), then press menu and mute (on the front panel) at the same time. On the top line of the two line OSD will be your firmware version. Just don't press "1" during this, as that will reset the unit to the default settings.
