Hello,
Newbie here, I am very seriously considering updating my current Denon 2800 receiver to the 970/amp combo. I am wondering if I will notice an upgrade in sound. I am currently an 80% HT, 20% Audio listener. I am also wondering if any other Canadians can tell me what to expect with Duties as I see the components are made in the US and thus should be duty free. Sorry for the long post, any and all information will be greatly welcomed!

Welcome to the saloon, batchelor! I suspect that this would be a satisfying upgrade for you. Without having heard either the 970 or the 2800, I can only extrapolate, but I've got a good bit of experience with the 950, 990, and Outlaw amps that suggests the combination of moving to separates and moving to the 970 will be good for you. Here's a parallel that might be useful... The Model 970 is in many ways a descendent of the Model 950. One of the 950's beta testers replaced a Denon 5700 with his 950 beta unit. I have a great deal of respect for RAF's opinions, and he found the 950 to be a step up from the 5700. His specific comments about the 950 can still be found here .

Hi Batchelor, what to expect with Duties I'm not sure about the free trade issue... But delivered to you're door, duties, exchange, taxes and brokerage fees included...you're looking at about 1.5 times the american dollar price... if you got the time, the means...and the urge to cut down on brokerage fees...you might want to check this thread As far as comparing a DENON receiver with any Outlaw product...I personnaly don't know...but from what I 've read in a few threads elsewhere...OUTLAW rules Good reading ....

Thanks for the info. Have you been happy with this combo? I am debating this combo or the 990/7125 combo for the added featues but am not sure I would use them all. I appreciate the feedback from all members here!!
