Is the 970 capable of switching two DVD players that output at least 720p?

Reason I ask... I have an RCA DRC8060N (DVD recorder with an HDMI output) connected to the DVI2 input (right now, I am not planning to record video through the 970's Rec in-out). I have configured "Video 2" for this DVD player. When I put in a disc, I see a brief 1-second flash of the DVD menu, then a blue screen. If I hit "Play" to play the DVD, I see the same brief flash of the DVD, then the blue screen.

My other DVD player, Samsung HD-841 works fine in the DVI1 input.

I have not tried swapping the DVI cables to see if the RCA play through the DVI1 and the Samsung balks in the DVI2.

Cheers,

PeteH

Bandwidth isn't such an issue with DVI and HDMI like it is with component video: either the digital signal goes or it doesn't. The things that typically mess up with DVI and HDMI signals are cable length or cable quality. As you suggest, you might try swapping the cables between the RCA and the Samsung to see if the cable is the culprit.

Thanks gonk... I'll try the cable switcheroo and see what happens.

OK... I swapped the cables. Both DVD players passed a 720p signal through the DVI connectors. I swapped them back and both still passed a signal. The big difference this time... I only had one DVD player on and outputting a 720p signal at one time.

So, it would seem having both DVD players on and sending a 720p signal at the same time confuses the DVI switch. Looks like the 970 will play the first 720p signal that hits the switch.

Cheers,

PeteH
