The 970 has an auto-polling option that will revert to analog if the digital signal is interrupted. It's a great feature for somebody with a digital cable box that doesn't convert analog audio stations to digital (such as all the Scientific Atlanta boxes I've used), but otherwise it is probably more trouble than it's worth. You should be able to go into the menu, input setup, and disable auto-polling for any inputs that you don't see a need for auto-polling (which may be every input you have).
