I mostly watch movies and play video games but I do still listen to lots of 2 channel music. Does the the larger power supply of the 5 and 7 channel amps really produce an audiable difference in sound quality. I thought that monoblocks and their single channel design made them more powerfull and dynamic than their 5 and 7 channel counterparts.

Compare the specifications of the 2200 to those of the 755 and 770. The signal to noise ratio is lower (higher noise floor)and the voltage gain is lower (less dynamic). Slew rate and damping factor for the 2200 are conspicuously absent in the 2200 specs.

Unfortunately, the 755 and 770 are no longer available so if you want 200WPC from Outlaw you're stuck waiting for the 755/770 replacements to ship or buy their 7125 and do the promotional upgrade when the real thing is ready. ....or just get an amp somewhere else if you've got a hole burning in your pocket. 8-)

Cheers,

Thanks abunch for the info Ritz. I was unaware of what alot of the specifications on amps really meant as far as performance was concerned. I recently returned a receiver that I had bought and I now have my system all disconnected awaiting my refund so that I may purchase a seperate amp to install. I guess I could wait on the new 7x200 amp but I really only need 5 channels right now and the price difference between the 2200 x5 compared to the 7x200 amp is going to be significant. I have looked a few places online since nowhere around me sells seperates and I cant find anything in the outlaws price range for the specs I am looking for. I have found a few 5x200 amps on ebay for a decent price but I am hesitant to pay that much money for a used product from a private individual that I dont know.

Keep in mind that the warranty on an Outlaw product is transferrable - it doesn't help you any if they've banged the amp up, but aside from that you still have the same support from Outlaw as someone who bought one new.

I have those very same speakers in the living room. they used to be my mains in the "papa's room" but they have migrated up a floor with the LSi15's replacing them. I guess my issue with your quest is that no matter what you do you will not likely overcome their biggest weakness: midrange. I think the amp powering the sub inside is like 80 watts, but that's not the problem. It's the midrange woofer. Also, the tweeter is not very good compare to their later variations. The RTi100's were a nice speaker in its time being one of the few affordable speakers with a built-in sub. IMHO, the RTi70's were probably the better choice, but I never got those two because at the time I never thought I could give them enough power.

But, the RTi100's will likely stay in this family forever as it is MORE than enough for the wife and kids. Meanwhile, the LSi series is the minimum for me when playing the Red Hot Chili Pepper and Rush!!!!!
