I am now using a DVI -> HDMI cable from 1070 to my Pioneer KURO PDP-6020. Video 1 has a Sony DVD/VCR player recorder (probably 420p at best)-- component cable going to the 1070 Video 1 in, audio Optical 2. While I get audio, the screen is blank.

------let me add, I have all kinds of cables, adapters etc to choose from.

My goal is not to have to change inputs on the Pioneer and have everything switch through the 1070. Is this possible?

I have the following I'd like to run through the 1070:

Samsung upconverting DVD (HDMI 1080i)
Scientific Atlanta 8850 cable (HDMI 1080i/720p etc)
Sony DVD/VCR recorder player (no HDMI -component S and composite)

Any ideas as to the best way to set this up without switching inputs on the plasma?

I don't know what all you've tried, but I'll toss out what I'd probably do.

The DVI-to-HDMI cable will only work when you have a DVI/HDMI input selected. DVI1 is linked to the DVD input and DVI2 is linked to the Video2 input. I would suggest using the Samsung with DVI1 and a coaxial or optical cable, The Scientific Atlanta with DVI2 and coaxial or optical, and the Sony with Video3 component and optical. With the Sony, though, you have one other consideration: does the component output work under all circumstances, or is it limited to DVD playback? Some combo units like that don't output a component signal from the tuner or VCR, in which case I'd swap the component cable for an s-video cable. You would then need to run DVI-to-HDMI and component to the Kuro and select the appropriate input on the TV (the HDMI input when watching the Samsung and cable box, and the component input when watching the Sony or when you want to view the 1070's onscreen menu). The 1070 can transcode composite and s-video to component, so whichever way you need to connect the Sony the component connection to the Kuro should suffice.

Once again thank you Gonk. I'd hoped the 1070 could take the component video3 and output it through the DVI. And yes, I do believe the older Sony DVD VCR has component out for the DVD and S or composite for the VCR with a common single optical or coaxial and analog audio out.

One of these days I am going back to a 19" vertical rack, this horizontal AV furniture is killing my back; good thing I'm a Chiropractor. smile

Since you've got the Samsung for DVD, I'd lean toward using s-video or composite to connect the DVD/VCR.
