There are currently only two ways to pass the new uncompressed audio(example: DTS-MA/TrueHD)from HD and Blue Ray, and this is through HDMI or Analogue. I went on a quest to find a new AVR with HDMI. I researched Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer Elite, Onkyo, Marantz, NAD, etc... through reading many hours of dedicated threads on AVS forums. I just can't find the AVR that does it all real well, maybe next generation.
I decided to keep my 1070, at least for now. So, once I get a new HD player I will exclusively use the analogue inputs on the 1070 and hope it works well. I’ve used the analogue inputs with my SD Denon DVD-2200 but not completely satisfied. I'm hoping a player like the Toshiba XA2 will be more satisfying,(if anyone has the XA2 please let me know your analogue settings for the player and 1070). I was leaning toward the new Samsung BD5000 combo player, but currently the audio is not up to snuff, even the analogue section.
Nice comparison of high definition optical disc formats

Hi Tom,

970 and 990 owners have the same issue as you with needing to use 7.1 analog inputs for the latest audio formats in BD players. You might want to check those sections of this forum to see what other owners are using. The latest players from Panasonic and Sony seem to be popular. I recently purchased a 990 and am waiting for the release of the Oppo Digital BDP-83 to use with it.

Regards,
Bill

Bill's mentioned the two most popular players that offer on-board decoding and analog output (the Panasonic BD55 and Sony S550). Neither will do standard DVD's as well as the XA2, but they will support the format that's still in production and decode all of the new formats. The combo players were all pretty disappointing, based on what I read. If you want good analog performance with Blu-ray, keep an eye out for details on the BDP-83 as more becomes available over the course of the next couple months. Both Peter Tribeman (Outlaw's president) and I are beta testing it, and once it's done we expect it to decode all the new formats and handle the high-res audio discs that your Denon 2200 does (SACD and DVD-Audio).

Yes, I'm anxiously waiting for a BD-83. I missed out on the first 50 EAP users so hoping for the next round. I do have an XA-2 for HD and briefly had a Samsung BD-P2500 for Blu-ray but sold it and now waiting for a BD-83.
