hey guys - i'm not sure when this started happening and I'm hoping it's a config thing. Having just moved, I don't have the manual handy.

Here's the setup:
Using HD-A2 to play CD's. DVD player is connected via an optical cable. I have the 1070's source "CD" configured to that optical input and preconfigured for 2 channel Stereo output.

I get no output from either sub in 2 channel mode. They both wake up immediately in 5-Stereo mode.

I've flipped through the menu looking for an applicable setting and I cannot. Any ideas?

Check the bass management settings for your front speakers. First, make sure that they are set to "small" - if they're "large" then the 1070 will provide no signal to the sub in stereo mode. (5 Stereo will provide a sub out in that case if your center and/or surrounds are set to "small.") Second, check out the crossover point for your fronts. If they are set to "small" but have a low crossover point, your music may not be producing notes low enough to dip below that crossover point. (Again, the situation would change in 5 Stereo if the center and/or surrounds are using a higher crossover point.)

gonk - once again...thank you.

this happened when I switched over to the Earthquake Saturn setup - they have towers, so I switched the speaker size toe "large" - i left my center and my surrounds at small.

I have no crossover setup on the towers, and 60 Hz setup for the center and surrs.

I suspected that the mains might be running large. The 1070's bass management is doing what it's told.

I had a hard time finding any good info on the Earthquake Saturn Orbital speaker, but I finally found this . The frequency response is a little sketchy. It has a "bandwidth" listed but doesn't mention what tolerance is used to determine that. The lower limits of 20Hz for the towers, 40Hz for the center, and 30Hz for the monitors make me think they are going more than the typical -3dB to get those figures. I'd suggest trying "small" front speakers and a crossover of either 40Hz or 60Hz.

gonk,

no question, finding info on the speakers is hard. I don't think they sold many of them and while I'm happy with the speakers, Earthquake doesn't have a strong support network.

I went home last night...Wife was w/ her grandmother so I had 2-3 hours to play with settings. I definitely had the fronts set to Large. I did change that last night to Small and set the crossover to 40Hz. This fixed my problem and I was back to rocking out in 2.2 channels.

crossover basics:

Gonk, so now that I have the following setup:

X_Over
Front L/R X-Over: 40Hz
Center X-Over: 60Hz
Surr L/R X-Over: 60 Hz

Speaker Size
Front L/R: Small
Center; Small
Surr L/R: Small
Subwoofer: LFE/YES

I should set the cross over (Low Pass) knobs on each sub to their highest setting to avoid double-crossover, correct? Just checking.

Either the highest settings, or just disable the crossover entirely if there's an option to do so. The Fathom F112 may have an option to set low pass filter to "off" (could be the same switch that selects 12dB/octave or 24dB/octave), which would do the trick just fine.

thanks again. I set the MKIV-12 to the highest knob setting and I flipped the LP Filter to off, just as you said. Watched some more "The War" afterwards and was in heaven.
