I'm new to the forum here. I have been reading a lot about the 1070 especially the latest announcement from Scott saying that the inventory is getting really low so if anyone wants it better put in an order now. I just upgraded my speakers to the Orb Mod 1 and high def dvd player (Toshiba A20). I'm still using the Onkyo 502 that was purchased 3 years ago. Personally I don't know if I will be able to tell a difference if I were to purchase the 1070 or any of the high end receiver. The room I have is considered small and it has low ceiling. To spend $899 on a receiver after upgrading my speakers and dvd player would be quite a hit on my budget. Based on you guys expertise do you think I would benefit much from the 1070 or denon 2807 or 3806 etc..? To be honest I'm quite happy with the receiver I have because I have yet to experience anything else. Some people said I will definitely hear the difference and some people said I won't. This came from people at Crutchfield and Onecall where they really want to sell you stuff but they told me I don't need it. Even the people at Orb Audio said the same thing. I don't really have a need for HDMI switching and video conversion at this point.

You mentioned you're happy with your current receiver...is there anything in the sound of your system that seems lacking to you?

I'm not sure if it's lacking anything. As I said I have not really tried anything else to see if I would be able to tell the difference or would I be able to tell the difference. I did speak to Scott and he said that I would definitely hear it with the outlaw 1070 and he said that it would also pair very well with my Orb speakers. That's why I'm torned and I'm not really going to be satisfied unless I can find out myself. Are you the one that selling your 1070? I thought I saw your ad on the AVS Forum. If you are may I ask why?

There are a number of Orb owners around here with 1070's, I believe, and the combination seems to work well for folks.

Not having heard the Onkyo 502, I don't know what sonic differences might exist between it and the Model 1070. The 1070 is certainly a pretty significant performer, and I suspect that you'd enjoy having it, but if it would be painful from a budget standpoint and the 502 is still taking care of you then you could always sit tight and wait a while - even after the 1070 is discontinued, there will be opportunities to buy used units (the warranty is transferrable, so Outlaw support will still cover you the same as if you bought from them) and by this time next year there may even be a new Outlaw receiver that is at least as good as the 1070. smile

I did have my 1070 up for sale, but I've decided to keep it. I was thinking of replacing it with a lower priced receiver to save some cash, but after trying out a few receivers my wife and I both concluded that nothing sounded as good as the Outlaw.

That's my dilema right now too Chas. I guess the only way is to order the outlaw and try it out myself too. That was my point as I have yet to try out other receivers. I'm also trying to save some money and that's why I'm looking at lower priced receiver because my wife is also not happy if I were to spend around $1000 for a receiver since we have just upgraded our speakers and dvd player. To spend another $1000 would be spending a total of over $2000 in upgrades for the surround sound system.

Like Gonk said...you can always keep your eye out for a deal on a used 1070 (try Audiogon). In the meantime, if your system sounds good to you then sit back and enjoy it for awhile.

The 1070 is the best receiver I've ever owned for sound quality. I decided to send mine back ONLY because I'm upgrading to the 990 and 7075. I've always wanted separates and figured now was the time to do it. I was so impressed with the sound of the 1070 that it sold me on going to Outlaw's separates.
My wife didn't know I'd sent the 1070 back...when she found out she asked me why I did that since she really liked the sound...she's NEVER said anything like that about any other receiver I've owned.
There should be a b-stock 1070 showing up pretty soon if you want to save a few bucks.

I really enjoy my B-stock 1070 as far as the sound quality. Honestly, it just blows me away everytime I play a quality mixed DVD! My previous A/V receiver was an 8 year old JVC with DD decoding (no DTS), which I thought was pretty good until I tried the 1070. It was like night and day. My Bose 701s and surrounds came alive!

My only gripe is that there is always some sort of problem with the 1070. First, problems with the sound, then the VCR video would flip, then firmware update and the sound was fixed, but video still flipping, then recently the video doesn't flip but just today the sound went out again. UGGHHH!!! It is very frustrating to have so many problems for a high-end component. When it works, the sound is awesome, but my JVC which cost a 1/3 of the 1070 never had any problems. I know there is more to the 1070 than the JVC, but for the price you pay and the reputation Outlaw has built I would expect to not have any problems.

Again, this has been a sore spot for me recently, because I really, really like the 1070's sound but don't want to constantly try and fix it. Maybe the issues are isolated to me, so ask a few others around here if they have the same continued problems and would they buy another 1070 if given the opportunity. Hope this helps ya.

Well you know in this age of digital everything...
my computer freezes up once in while...
my hdmi/dvd player insists on being turned on last or else....
my coffee machine bleeps and burps if anything isn't just right for it...
so if my 1070 needs a little extra love in the form of a "pat on the back"+"main switch reboot" once in a while...I can oblige...
and as long as that works and it keeps sounding incredible...
I'm in !!!

Hey OG33, just wanted to know what you thought about your NHT's? I have the same exact set-up sitting here, still in their boxes waiting for a room addition to completed so I can use them. The only difference is I will be using a LFM 1 plus (also sitting here). It's killing me just looking at this stuff every day. Sorry to stray from the topic guys but where did the private e-mail go?

PeteC,
I sent you a PM...by the way, my 990 came on Tuesday...wow it's big!, and my 7075 is due today! Can't wait to get them hooked up and going. On topic, like Hog Up I did experience some issues with no audio, but the sq is worth putting up with some issues, and it sounds like the new fix has corrected the audio issue too!
