As Laventura has pointed out, the 1070 will apply on-screen "pop-up" notes to the composite and s-video outputs (which will be transcoded to the component output when the original input is either composite or s-video). If you are watching a source like HD cable or DVD that uses a DVI or HDMI output, then your TV is of course on the HDMI input. Adjusting the volume on the 1070 would produce an on-screen "pop-up" for the composite or s-video monitor output, but you're not going to see it unless you either change the TV's video input (as Laventura mentioned) or use a picture-in-picture mode to see that basic analog input. The pop-up will not be overlayed onto the main source.
