I've used my 1070 in a dorm, in a bedroom in my parents house, and in an apartment (very old building as well). I've actually never put anything on separate circuits, because it wasn't under my control in any of the 3.
I have my computer (which admittedly only has a 300W power supply), HDHomerun, wireless router, cable modem, external drive, 37" LCD TV, 15" LCD monitor, Xbox, Wii, 200W (I think) Klipsch 2.1 computer speakers, the 1070 (driving 5 channels), a Samson S1000 for the SVS subs (using both channels), and quite a few chargers (cellphone, remote, mouse, Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth GPS, Wii remotes), and a powered radio antenna.
I know its not the best idea to have all that on one circuit, but as I said, its not under my control.
The only time I've ever overloaded the circuit was when I was at my parent's and my sister used her hairdryer at the same time I was watching TV (evidentally both rooms were on the same circuit.)
