I have acquired a used LG LST-4200A STB and am trying to make the Outlaw remote work it. The problem is that the 1070 manual doesn't give a code for this thing. It doesn't give a code for any LG STB. The remote that came with the STB gives 001 as the code for an LG STB, assuming you got the remote with some other product. Of course, the Outlaw remote requires 4 digits. Anyone know what the code might be. If I put in the 3-digit code followed by any 4th digit, i.e. 0010, might that work. I tried using the CBL and SAT buttons on the Outlaw remote, and I tried cycling through the codes to see if either would work, but had no success.

Anyone got an idea what the proper code is, whether it has to be programmed as a CBL, SAT, TV or AUX device?

Thanks, Bob

I checked Hi-Fi Remote here and here (not sure if it's a cable or satellite box) and didn't see any LG codes there either. LG did acquire Zenith some time back and continued to use their brand name in the US market for a while, so you might try the Zenith codes. For a cable set top box, that'd be 0000, 0525, and 0899. For a satellite set top box, that'd be 0523 and 0856.

Thanks Gonk, but those codes didn't work. I also found reference to GoldStar being related to LG, a predecessor I think. But Goldstar codes didn't work either. I also tried Zenith TV and DVD player codes on the off chance that the same codes work LG's DVD/DTV combos. No luck.

Its an LG LST-4200A ATSC NTSC QAM tuner. They stopped making STBs a year or so ago. I assumed it would use SAT or CBL codes, but have tried TV and DVD codes as well.

Ah... Gotcha. I'd suspect that TV codes (0017, 0016, 0056, 0092, 0463, 0624) would have been the best bet, but (my Zenith HDTV has a built-in ATSC tuner and they may be using the same remote codes for standalone tuners as well), but it sounds like you've tried that.

Remember that the code databases are separate for different device types (CBL/SAT, TV, DVD, VCR, ...) and the device buttons on the remote are configured by default only to look at the "relevant" codes for that device type. You can re-direct a device button to look at a different section of the database, but if you skip that step then a TV code will do nothing useful when entered for a CBL/SAT device button.

I have found a problem. The LG book says it's remote uses 001 for LG STBs. The table you provided a link for says if the remote uses only 3 digits drop the leading 0. Therefore, the code on a 4-digit remote like Outlaw's should be 0001. But none of the buttons on the Outlaw remote will accept 0001, even though some cable boxes, ABC and Sylvania, use that code.

I don't know what codes the TNR button would accept, but I don't want to mess with that one because I don't know what the proper code is for the 1070 Tuner to put it back in if the experiment works.

Different remote manufacturers use different code databases - the Hi-Fi Remote site focuses solely on the UEI remotes (often sold as Radio Shack or One-For-All), and in some cases those remotes' manuals use three-digit codes. The site is a useful resource for the Outlaw remotes (at least those provided with the old Model 1050 and the current Model 1070, 970, 990, and RR2150) because they all use a Catalyst48 remote made by UEI. LG may be getting their remotes from somebody else, in which case the remote codes bear no relation to each other.

Don't try to program anything into the TNR button - there's no information available about setting it back to work with your Outlaw.
