Especially since upgrading my Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro system to A'Diva Ti's for the front pair, it does seem a bit dark. I took some measurements with an RTA and they show that the high end drops off a bit. Could be the speakers, but it could be the 1070 also.

This week is spring break for the University I work for, so I may try pulling my Crown DC300 out of my studio and put it with the Gallos to see what they are like then. Unfortunately I don't have the RTA any longer, so I won't be able to take measurements.

I played around a bit while I had the RTA, and setting the treble on the 1070 to +6 got me pretty darn close to flat, however it sounds a bit harsh due to the phase problems associated with doing that extreme of EQ, so I went ahead and set it back to 0.

If I get a chance to move some stuff around I'll let you know what I find out.

BTW, the imaging with the Gallos and the 1070 is astounding. On well recorded material you can close your eyes and it seems like you can reach out and touch the musicians. It can be almost frightening.

Cool beans SP. My speakers can image well too. Some speakers do too much imaging. The sound of classical , esp. orchectral gives me great depth.

I sent my Denon DVD 3930CI out today for repair. I am hoping it comes back better sounding. The 2nd laser for DVD/SACD is bad.

I have Klipsch speakers, so I'd imagine that any darkness that might exist would be overriden by the brightness from my horns.

Sorry Liz, I didn't have a chance to do this over the last week, other things came up. I may have time in a couple of weeks, as the semester is almost over, and our last show opens next week. Once I know I don't need the studio for a while I can try moving my amp to the HT.

Hi Shawn,

The outlaw 1070 is a great Receiver. My Denon DVD player is out for reapir. I am using my PC via a digital Coax and loving the sound of the music. Hopefully the denon comes back and the sound is somewhat better and not the dark sound.

Liz

In my opinion, Outlaw is pretty neutral, neither bright nor dark, just right. It could have more low level detail, but that's pretty expensive to achieve and at 7.1 channels and this price point, I'm not so sure how much better, sound-wise, it could get.
I use it pired with Axiom speakers in the front and Orb in the back.
I have my music gear in a separate room, a Cambridge Audio 640A amp paired with Infinity Delta 30 floor standers. The Outlaw scores right there, with the Cambridge, and it's a receiver, not a dedicated stereo amp with class A driver which harvested scores of awards...
Cambridge has the "british midrange", whereas Outlaw is more muscular and dynamic, but the overall sound is darn good and choosing one over the other is a matter of taste. I'm seriously thinking how Outlaw stereo gear sounds for music if this surround receiver sounds so good. I bet it scores high.
