I have a Pioneer Elite DV-59AVi connected to my 1070 with a coax cable and 6 analog audio cables. I don't have many, maybe 2, SACDs, and I tried yesterday to play one for the first time. The 1070 switched to Analog, but no sound comes out. I've checked the DVD player, and it seems to be configured properly. The 1070 seems to be configured properly, as well.

When I switch the DVD player to read the CD area of the disk I get beautiful music from the coax connection. Why can't I hear the SACD area of the disk? What am I missing?

Thanks, Bob

Sounds like you have the autodetect feature running. This will switch between the digital input and the stereo analog, but as far as I know not the 7.1 input. Use the 7.1 input button on the remote to get to those inputs.

This is how I'm running my Oppo to get SACD happening. I typically have the 1070 set to Optical input, then when I pop in an SACD I hit the 7.1 input button. If you want to use a digital output for non-SACD playback you will need to remember to hit the button again. However if you can see your 1070 from your seating location it is pretty obvious it is in 7.1 mode. It says Bypass and 7.1 input on the LCD panel.

Shawn, thanks.

I finally got to try what you suggested, but it didn't work. If I set the 1070 to DVD 7.1 everything comes out of the surround speakers, nothing from the mains and center. It appears that the 1070 is getting analog input, because sound comes out even if the source is set to optical1, which is not connected. I have tried setting the DVD player to the 2 channel SACD area and tht doesn't work either. The only way I get sound out of all channels is to play the SACD CD area.

Anyone else got a suggestion?

If you set the 1070 to 7.1 Direct and the mains and center were silent, I'd double-check the multichannel analog cables and make sure they're all plugged into the right places.

For SACD and DVD-A, you of course need the 7.1 Direct input. SACD in particular will send no audio via digital connection; DVD-A will send a downmixed stereo signal.

For DVD's and CD's, you are probably best off using the digital connection. If you are having any problems there, you need to make sure that the DVD player's digital output is set to "bitstream" (sometimes called "raw") and not "PCM."

'fraid I'm lookin' kinda sheepish. But it was the cable troll that made me mix up the analog cables. All now seems to be well in the SACD world.

Thanks

Yeah, I recently added analog cables for SACD/DVD-Audio, and it is a bit counter intuitive that the L and R input for the mains is quite a distance away from the rest of the inputs. Many receivers have a dedicated 7.1/5.1 input section with all 6/8 connectors together.

I wouldn't be surprised if Outlaw has gotten a few calls about this exact thing from people upgrading from other receivers.
