Here's the scoop. I have a severely muddy picture on many dark 480i programs processed through my 1070. 480P or better media works fine even on dark programs.

The system:
Scientific Atlantic 8300 HD Cable box connected to the 1070 via Blue Jeans Component cables
Old school Pioneer DVD player connected to the 1070 via Blue Jeans Component cables

Panasonic plamsa connected to the 1070 video output via Blue Jeans Component cables

The 1070 is being used for all audio. It is also used as the video switcher for all sources.

What I've tried (and results, or lack of):
Swapped DVD and Cable box inputs, no change in picture quality
Connect cable box directly to TV, picture cleared up considerably

My 1070 is as it was sent back in '05 with no firmware updates (haven't seen the need yet). I am coming to the conclusion that the 1070 is having issues processing the signal. What else can I try to make sure my root cause is really the reciever? Is this a known issue?

I was having trouble contacting Outlaw last night, but will hit them up today.

Thanks
Tim

You could try connecting the either the dvd player or the cable box with composite cables to the 1070 and composite cables to the tv. Or S-Video and S-video for that matter.

I know that is not the quality that you are going for but it might verify that it is the component section of the 1070 that is at fault. Since the direct connection to the tv with component cables is fine.

Your problem also reminds me of the issues with component cables from the xbox 360 to SDTV vs. HDTV. The picture was significantly darker on the SDTVs. This problem was known about and consistent across different hardware, which makes me think that component cables have something going on. Maybe this has something to do with your problem.

Good luck
