Hello...

So I'm truly dreading the notion of updating my 1070 via the RS232 becasue it require me to completely disconnect my 1070 to get the unit near my PC. I would absolutely use my laptop to do this but serial ports are not even included on new ThinkPads.

My "no audio" issues have become a little more frequent since I started changing sources and since I started using a cable box on my setup. Can't tell you why that's the case, but the firmware update is seeming to be more needed than ever now.

Does anyone know of a Serial/USB "surefire" cable that will do the update? What do I risk if the update fails using this interface?

Maybe it'd be worthwhile to have a thread with some reports of what USB-to-serial adapters have worked. There have been people using USB-to-serial adapters successfully for the 1070 and 970 firmware updates, and there are some older posts (such as these assorted threads ) that have offered some information. It certainly beats moving the 1070 to a desktop PC (or vice versa).

Good idea. If I could rename this thread to do that I would. I guess I'll open a new one shortly.

RedsinPa,

I just updated the firmware on my 1070. I have not powered up the unit yet and I expect to on Saturday as my shelves will be finished and I am getting the speakers from a buddy.

I also have a Thinpad and no serial port yet I think the parallel wil double as a serial port if you gget that type of cable.

The update went smooth, no problems what so ever.

Liz

Liz - which did you use, a USB/Serial or a Parallel/Serial?

Please let me know how it works out. Thanks!
