I've been reading alot of reviews on so many receivers, the good the bad and all the opinions.
I've narrowed my selections to the outlaw 1070 or the 990/7125 and the sony 3200es.
I will be using this system for movies (mostly),
In your honest opinion what is the best fit.
(aperion speakers fronts, sub, center and backs)

I have a seperate system for music,(wright audio mono blocks-2A3(tubes),audio note M1 pre (tubes)and bottle head DYI speakers 8 drivers a piece 96db)and a rega table for vinyl.

I envy your two channel system! Although my cheapy alternative of the 1070 and Wharfedale Diamond 8.3s is good enough for now I can only aspire to what you are running.

From a performance perspective I can say that I have no complaints with my new 1070. It has much better clarity and resolution than my old Sony(which one might expect since the Sony was only $300). Running the Wharfedales and, 5 Mirage Omnisats and a Mirage OM200 sub the sound from the 1070 in my 12 x 20 room is excellent. My new favourite demo is the first track of the Animatrix DVD. The opening fight sequence has lots of sharp surround effects and the rest is a major ride. Since this sequence is totally CGI the sound is very well produced and mixed. Although I don't attend too many movies in theatres lately I don't expect I'd be missing anything except perhaps a sense of the 'size' of the theatre itself. I guess even that could be simulated but why mess with a good thing.

I did a lot of research before getting the 1070 and it sure looks like the best option for the price. I was really set on an Arcam receiver but for an extra $600 - $700 I just couldn't justify it.

Just be warned - the traffic dealing with strange 1070 behaviours you'll find in this forum appear to be based on fact. I've had some quirks show up but then again my old Sony was 'brainless'. Sometimes that's a good thing but at this level of equipment you're unlikely to find a 'straight-wire' solution. Apparently the Outlaw guys are a great bunch as well. Hell, Gonk alone is enough to steer you 5 degrees towards the 1070!

thanks for your reply. I started listening to music only and then leaned toward HT. I like my music and my set up (thanks for the compliment) so I did not want to mess with it.(its warm and a great sound stage, vinyl sounds great on it.)
I've read the problems with the 1070 but it sounds like the Outlaw gang will have that under control.
Do you know if they will be releasing a newer version of the 1070 say 1090?
I know the CES is starting 1/07/07.

The 990 by all reports shows the greatest benefit over the 1070 and 970 with two-channel music listening, with the difference between the two narrowing a fair bit when you look at movies. If you thought you might also do some music listening on this system or if your speakers are a difficult load (something that would make separate amplification more desirable), then the 990 would be my recommendation. For movies only and reasonable speakers, the 1070 would be a mighty cost-effective choice for the front end of a theater system.

Outlaw won't release anything new on the electronics front (1070, 970, 990) until they can integrate HDMI v1.3, and that means we shouldn't expect anything before mid-year at the earliest (I kinda suspect closer to year-end, but that's just my SWAG). They probably won't have a presence at CES, although it sounds like we may see a new product announcement later this month (apparently in a new product category for Outlaw, so presumably not a receiver, processor, or amp).

yeah i would have to agree with you the 1070 sounds good and cost-effective.
As far as movies what has been peoples experience using the 1070?

I've had my 1070 for about 14 months now -- I also run it through an Aperion Audio 5.1 set up. I also have a seperate rig for music (McIntosh MC 2505 and C26 with Vandersteen 2Ce's, Thorens TT -- also a pair of AR3a's depending on what I am listening to). So I use the 1070 and Aperion setup primarily for movies, TV, and video games -- all using optical connections.

For the price, it is an outstanding combination (well under $2500 for both the 1070 and the Aperions). I have been really happy with the performance and sound quality. And even now it blows me away that the set up cost so little for what you get. You could spend more, but as I am sure you know, you really start to see diminishing returns. I think that the 1070 not only hits, but far exceeds the "sweet spot" in terms of value and bang for the buck.

Thanks for the reply and info. Great music set up! Yeah that's what I will be using the 1070 for is movies. I will be ordering mine tomorrow.
