I just picked up the latest Oppo dvd player (based on gonk's review) as well as the Logitech Harmony 720 universal remote at Costco and I'm enjoying both. However, I bought a used SACD and it won't play in my car as my car only accepts DVD-A. Why things aren't universally accepted is absurd.

Question re: hooking up 1070 and Oppo dvd player DV-981HD FOR DVD-Audio//SACD/DVD - 1070 input - l/r/cen/sub/sl/sr/sbl/sbr - Oppo rear panel connectors - lmixed/rmixed/lfront/rfront/lsurround/rsurround/center/subwoofer - Is the sbl = lmixed and sbr = rmixed? Also, why did I place a SACD in the dvd today and get no sound at all? What am I doing wrong? Please help.

The 981's left, right, center, left surround, right surround, and sub go to the left, right, center, left surround, right surround, and sub on the 1070 - the left and right surround backs on the 1070 are left empty and the left/right mixed on the 981 are not needed (they're duplicates of the other left/right outputs, used for purely stereo output).

A SACD will only work via the multichannel analog connections - it won't output via optical or coaxial digital. I'd recomment setting the SACD priority on the General Setup page to multichannel. On the Speaker Setup page, go with downmix set to 5.1 CH, all speakers large, and the sub on.

Gonk, thank you for your excellent advice. It worked. My oppo 981 is sounding great through the 1070.
