I have a 990/7125 setup in my media room. I am now getting new equipment in the family room. I need a receiver with video switching capability. My local AV store has a Denon 3806 onsale for 899.00 but I love my old 1050 and my new 990/7125. Just wanted to get some feedback from my Outlaw friends and see if you would vote for the Denon 3806 or Outlaw 1070...thanks everyone...DR

On the one hand, the Denon is a somewhat newer design - the feature sets are pretty close, with a few notable additions showing up on the Denon that may or may not be an issue in a secondary system (HDMI v1.1 inputs being probably the most significant example) - which may or may not give the Denon an edge depending on what hardware you're pairing it with. On the other hand, you are familiar with and like the sound of Outlaw's receivers and amps - which may give the Outlaw an edge since you could reasonably expect it to be a nice evolution of the old 1050.

I too was considering the 1070 or the 3806 but now have changed. It's now between the new Denon 2807, and the Rotel 1057. I really wanted the Outlaw but the lack of a second zone (one feature I want) is ruling the 1070 out. It's a shame that there is no 2nd zone on the 1070 as that feature is now standard on most inferior receivers.

You can use the tape out of the 1070 to drive an integrated amp in a second zone (Gonk and I have an Outlaw tread somewhere describing this). The Rotel will also need an amp of some kind, either to drive the front channels and redirect the receiver amp to the second zone or to drive the second zone, so there is no loss really compared to the 1070. Now if you want a third zone, you'd need to use the same trick on the 990.....

Never thought of that, Thanks. I'm pretty new to this as it will be my first quality home theater set-up. Was also looking at the 990 with the 7075 but I think that will cut into my speaker budget too much. I'm pretty restricted to satellite size which I know isn't good, but any thoughts on Orbs with the Outlaw LFM-2 or KEF-KHT3005 system.

I was very close to getting the orbs. Then I got some M&K850's and just took things up a notch.

Look at the online m&K sound store. Some great deals. Also on Ebay.

I would have spent about $1600 on Orbs to get a full blown 7.1 system. I was going to use my LFM-1 all along. I got carried away big time.

But The Kefs did not impress me. The Orbs are very impressive. Never read a bad review of them!

Here\'s that thread kjl mentioned. There definitely are ways to achieve a second zone. What is your second zone? Outdoor speakers, an adjacent room, or something along those lines?

It will be outdoor speakers. I will only be running 5.1 surround. Would it be possible to use the extra 2 channels or would I need a separate power amp. I guess another option would be amplified speakers. Thanks for the help, I didn't mean to steal Dr. Z's post.

Also, thanks for the thread, I didn't see it before I posted. I may try that.
