I am thinking seriously about using a 1070 reciever with Ascend 340 Main speakers and either an LFM-2 subwoofewr or the comparable HSU sub. Does anyone use this combination? If yes, what are your impressions? How would it sound playing 1:) Music, 2:) Movies , 3:) games?

Which cables, interconnects work well wit this setup?

Thanks

The comments in this thread were based on using the 1070 with Ascend 340 classics (and 170 surrounds) and an SVS sub.

I found the performance to be very good for music and movies, but I never tried games on my system.

Hi Chas. Thaks for providing this. I am really interested in hearing your thoughts on the SQ. At this time, I understand teh firmware update addresses teh issue you ran into. Do you think the 1070 has enough power?

The efficiency of those 340's (90dB anechoic, 92dB in-room) certainly suggests that the 1070 could do quite well with them, especially with a sub in the mix to help pick up the really low frequencies. That's just the "on paper" analysis: chas or other owners can offer some first-hand feedback.

Cables can be a source of great debate. The minimum goal needs to be properly-made interconnects and speaker wire of sufficient size for the length of cable being run (which should be a fairly short distance for the mains and center). For interconnects, commonly recommended sources include Outlaw, Blue Jeans Cables, and MonoPrice (although the offerings at MonoPrice are extensive and include some really cheap stuff that I'd recommend avoiding). For speaker cables, I'd first recommend going with something around 14 gauge - terminations can be whatever you prefer (banana plugs are the most convenient but may not work for wall-mounted surrounds and can get a bit loose, while bare wire or spades can be tightened securely with a little more effort).

I've never heard if the latest firmware update has resolved ALL no-audio issues...maybe Gonk or others can comment on that subject.

I'm not sure what "enough power" is for your room and listening preferences, but I found the 1070 to sound more powerful than the 110 watt per channel receiver I used before and after the 1070.

I'm not sure if the latest beta resolved all of the issues or if it just significantly reduced the number of instances.

I haven't had the problem at all since the newest beta firmware was released. I should note that I currently have significantly fewer analog devices attached than I did before, but I've played about 20 hours on my gamecube recently and haven't had an audio dropout, and haven't had the digital inputs do it since I updated as well (the digital inputs get far more usage).

I'll note that occasionally when I turn the 1070 on using my Harmony remote, it will immediately turn itself back off, but I figure that to be some error in the remote programming and nothing to do with the 1070, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.
