The manual states not to use "a standard IEC 3-prong (grounded) power cord".

Any speculation as to why?

The supplied cord is 18AWG, pretty light-weight to me. If I were to use a heavy AWG 3-prong cord, is the 1070 going to turn into a pumpkin?
Is the 1070 going to suffer some performance impact?

It might be worthwhile to run this question past the Outlaws themselves (either on the phone or through the support site , since they rarely post here in the saloon. If I had to guess, it may simply be a matter of making sure you recognize that the grounded pin isn't connected to anything.

If the stock cord isn't getting hot, why change it?

If one believes system cabling are actually components themselves and can influence sound, then there's your answer. Just poke around some of the fine audio forums and you'll see.

The reply back from the Outlaws indicate that it is fine to use a 3-prong power cord.

We've had a number of cabling discussions here over the years, much like other fine audio forums. Charlie's point is one of the central counter-points offered against the case for fancy third-party power cords: it's a few feet of copper at the end of many, many, many miles of copper power lines, so aside from sizing it using the same principles applied to sizing any other power wiring (large enough to pass the current without it becoming an electric resistance heater) the sonic benefits of exotic conductors, insulators, and the rest over that few feet are extremely difficult to justify scientifically.

Sorry, not my intention to stir up the perpetual cable debate.

No problem - the cable debate is one that never goes away, but by and large we've been able to acknowledge it without having to pull out the flamethrowers. smile

Gonks more political than I am, but I just try to inject a tiny bit of reason into it and walk away. Not my money being spent, after all.
