This is sort of curious, since I was under the impression that the 1070 and 970 allowed for this sort of memory. The 970 announcement newsletter included the following comment about the 1070 firmware update released at the same time the 970 was launched:

Bringing things full-circle, during the development and extensive beta testing of the Model 970 we made some improvements to the original operating software base of the Model 1070. These changes address a number of suggestions made by you, our Outlaw customers, including “surround mode stickiness” so that your “last chosen” modes remain.
Since I use a DVD player for both DVD playback and CD playback, I've always set up my processor (both my 990 and the 950 I had before that) so that one input always produced stereo (specifically upsampled stereo in the case of my 990) with PCM stereo sources while having another input always set up to apply Pro Logic II processing to Dolby Digital 2.0 and PCM stereo sources. I understood the 1070 and 970 to behave in the same manner.
