Hey everyone! I just joined and I am a neophyte.

I'm planning to purchase the 1070 and I want a great sounding surround system (speakers) for under $1K.

Any suggestions??

As an aside, I was looking at the Boston Acoustics AVR 7120. $999 @ onecall.com but the rep was evasive when I called to find out the reason why such a huge discount was being offered (list price$2999). Anyone here know why??

Thanks

One candidate for a $1000 set of speakers would probably be the new speakers from SVS. I suspect that others can chime in with some more.

I've seen the AVR 7120 pretty heavily discounted lately - both at OneCall and I think at Audio Advisor. I haven't heard why.

For under 1K are you thinking 5 sat's and a sub?

Besides the SVS suggestion from Gonk, for a quality set of speakers you may want to look into the "X" Series speakers from www.av123.com

For roughly $700-$800 you can have a complete 5.1 setup. The sat's, which are fairly large and finished beautifully, do not include grills. If you have kids or are against having your woofers and tweeters exposed, these may not be for you.

Another option may be Ascend Acoustics HTM-200 speakers and a Hsu(or similar) sub.

Lotsa options out there.

Thanks guys,
I'll look into your suggestions.

Another question. Would it be better for me to get better quality L/R front speakers and a good sub and then gradually add surrounds and a center?

Thanks for your quick replies.
