Here's another good way for me to tell the sound quality of the 1070. I've never realized how horrible my MP3 files sound until using this receiver. My previous receiver, a Sony STR-DE935, would make everything sound the same. Now I can definitely tell the difference between MP3 and CD quality.

To put it into purspective

to get dvi switching from say denon you would have to pay atleast 3499 from Onkyo 4999, sony 1999 source crutchfield.

I've got my 1070 up and running for a few days now. Adding my two cents worth to the review:

My wife commented that she thought the sound was better than the 1050. Me - I spent too many years in Navy engine rooms so lost a lot of high frequency hearing, but the 1070 seems to have a better (feel for lack of a more definitive comment).

Echoing other comments, we both noted we could no longer read the 1070 display from our viewing seats - never had a problem with the 1050. I too think it's the blue color that's mostly the problem. But the OSD feature is easy to access when necessary and it's a nice feature. I'll probably get to the point where I'll turn OSD off though.

I too replaced a 1050 with the 1070. Price was higher, yes, but so far I think the quality is better. Great customer service continues - got an input on the weekend from one of the moderators on a remote problem that was fixed by doing the 1070 software update.

I'm not using upgrades like DVI switching, but I recognize this will likely be an important feature for next TV/monitor I buy.

Although my DVD player has component out, I don't run component to the 1070 then to the TV. The reason is that my TV won't allow PIP when using component inputs. It's a 5 year-old Samsung that works beautifully with progressive scan, but I do love the PIP for keeping an eye on the Red Sox while watching something else. So I run component direct from DVD to TV and then run S-Video from the 1070 for cable viewing.

Definitely see the value of 1070's video switching though for the day I go HDTV.

Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. The bonus is that I've now got the 1050 in another room and we love using it when don't want to watch from home theater setup.
