I'm thinking about buying the 1050 for my HT. I currently am running a 1st generation pioneer DD reciever (Cheap. My Question is aboutmy speakers. My Mains are Cerwin Vega E712's, the center is a Cerwin Vega E-76C, the rears are older Dynaco "options" a-25's and the sub is an audiosource SWFifteen. For one reason or another alot of people bad mouth Cerwin Vega, but I happen to really like them, the mids could be better but thats niether here nor there. My question is with the 1050 go well with my CV's???? thanks for the help...

Yes, hockeyfan, the 1050 will go with your speakers and make them even sound better. I am using two sony speakers that came with a sony "boom" box as my surrounds and the 1050 makes them sound much better than my Technics receiver. They sounded so bad using my Technics that I had to discontinue their use.
Some complain about the appearance of the Outlaw but I personally like the looks. But it is the sound that it produces that no other receiver in the price range of the 1050 can touch it. Go get you one, you'll be glad you did.

Hey Hockyfan I was just wondering do you like your Cerwin Vega E-76C center channel. You see odds are most of my HT setup will have Cerwin Vega in it. I already use a pair of E-710's for 2channel setup as of now.

hey Mark, when you say the 1050 makes your speakers sound better, what exactly are you referring to, and also, how do you have your speakers setup through the 1050 ? I just purchased one last week and finally hooked it up last night. To tell you the truth after setting my Polk RT55i's to small and crossover setting at 80hz, I don't get as much as a punch off this thing as my old Sony 2x50 2 channel receiver that I purchased 10 years ago.

Jay,
My speakers sound better because they are being driven with a better receiver. Don't ask me to explain it in technical terms, maybe someone else can do that. The insides of the 1050 are completely different than the Technics receiver I had. The power is much "cleaner" and it brings out much more of what is on the DVD and CD's.
The sony speakers I mentioned when hooked up to my Technics sounded hallow and tinny. I had to unhook them after a short period. But now they have some depth that wasn't there before.
My B&W front sound better as well. From what I understand, B&W speakers need to have clean power from the amp/receiver. I always thought this was bogus until I heard it with my own ears. The receiver brings out instruments that I never knew was on the CD. But the greatest difference is playing DVD's. WOW!!! All sorts of sounds are coming at me now. I hope this anwers your question even though I did not get technical.
About your bass problem. It may be you have a defective receiver. It could be defective in it's bass management. It does happen to every brand of reciever out their. Or it could be a difference preference between well established bass from the 1050 and the muddy bass from the sony. I don't know, just some thoughts. What is the frequency range of your Polk's? If you are thinking of purchasing speakers, start with a sub. I have the Boston PV600 and it is a great sub for a great price. This would give you the low frequency foundation. Keep us posted on your problem.

I'm glad to hear you like your E-76C, I'm also thinking of about using that speaker for my center. One more thing Hockeyfan6781, I was wondering have you heard the Cerwin Vega E-706. You see I was thinking of about using 3 E-706's for surrounds. Do you think E-706's would make good surrounds or not?

Yes, I've heard of the E706. They would make good surrounds, I myself have been thinking about the e705 or 706 for my surrounds but haven't decided yet... Check out ebay, I see the 706's on there all the time below $100.

Thinks for the help Hockeyfan6781. It seems both of our system will be mainly made up of Cerwin Vega gear. Lucky you, you got a pair of E-712's while I'm stuck with these little E-710's.

The 710's arent bad speakers... what kinda sub do you have???? I just bought my dad a Cerwin Vega LW12 for his system, but I personally am using an audiosource SWFIFTEEN. Planning on a Velodyne.. You will get great sound with those 710's and a decent sub...

Well as of right now I'm running an Aiwa TSW60, which was a left over from my mini system days about 2 years ago. I hope to upgrade very soon. Some of the subs I have been looking at are:
Acoustic Research: AR-S115PS
Cerwin Vega: LW-15
Klipsch: KSW-12
JBL: PB12
Velodyne: CT-100 or CHT10
So out of these subs which do you think is the best?

As of right now the plan is the either the CHT15 or CHT12, or possibly the CT150.

Thanks for the update on the E-706's. And by the way congrats on getting a flaming folder, since you have more than 15 replies you now have one. Strange I have put 3 post on this board and I have not got one reply.

Oh ok, so hows the Onkyo??? I just bought a Yamaha HTR-5450 2 days ago.. I was originally gonna get the outlaw 1050, but I saw the Yamaha at sears for $399, but sears will match any price in the US, including internet so I printed up the page from www.moreaudiovideo.com with priced it at $279 and then my friend works at sears so she got me an extra 15% off of that, so I couldn't pass it up..

Strange the Sears around here gave me a list of websites and said that they will only lower prices if they cheaper on these sites. What really bites is that moreaudiovideo.com is not one of them. As for the Onkyo I like it, the Onkyo has a lot more power than my Kenwood AR404. But I'm taking the Onkyo back so I can have some more money to put towards a better HT receiver. You see I just figured out that I don't need the Onkyo because I got a Fisher X-100 integrated tube amp for free. I only have to spend 50 to 100 bucks to get some tubes for it and it will like brand new, and then I will use the Fisher for my 2channel setup. By the way I was thinking of getting the Outlaw 1050 but how about that Yamaha? How does it measure up against the Outlaw?

I love it.. The main difference between it and the 1050 is it doesnt support the 6th channel like the 1050.. but I guess you have the cake and eat it too... Thats wierd i've taken all sorts of different internet sites to sears and never had a problem, the guy actuall called some confirmation number and asked about moreaudiovideo.com and they said yes, and it was already in their system as #15, maybe you should look into that...

Another Question about the Velodyne's, is their a price difference between the CT and CHT series? Also about the Yamaha does it have Dolby Pro Logic 2?

For the perticular Velodynes I'm looking at the CHT-150 is $699 and the ct-150 is $649.. the CT120 is like $449.. The Yamaha I have doesn't have pro logic II, It does have a mode just like it. In the DSP there is a setting called 5 channel stereo, and it seems to seperate good..

Mark, These Polk Audios frequency range is 35Hz - 26kHz. I should be receiving my SVS 20-39CS sub ( www.svsubwoofers.com) this week. I agree that there may be a Bass Management defect, because not I've noticed whether I put the speaker on Large, or Small it doesn't matter, there is no difference.

I went to www.svsubwoofers.com, and I like what I see. That might be something to check out.. I may passup the Velodyne forone of these.. Right now I'm thinking of oneof the passives, because I have an audiosource amp1/a poweramp brand new sealed, that i bought a while back but havent used.. It can be bridged to 200watts mono, pe5rfect for the sub.. check it out it maybe something to look into..

For my 2 cents on Velodyne, not bad, but if I had it all to do over again, I'd probably seriously consider something else. A buddy of mine got an M&K, which I was totally amazed by. It is small, but so much more bassy rather than boomy. I like much of Paradigm's stuff that I'd give them a listen.
Another thing I noticed with my CT-150's (there are two) is that to set them with the correct SPL, one's volume is set at 8 and the other 5. Pretty surprising, as I thought there would only be a slight difference between the settings. . .
But that's my thought. I'm still happy with them, but think I could be happier with something else and not out much more money.

I can't see myself living without my SVS sub. I know that is a bold statement but it has added so much to my movie and music enjoyment that I truly love it. Now would I say the same thing about another sub If had not gotten this one? I don't know, but I wouldn't hesitate to plop down $800 again. I would have been curious to try the different models out at home to see which one I liked best but....When I looked at them I figured bigger must be better so I bought the 16-46. I have heard that the smaller ones don't go as low but have more volume. Also for anyone with a good sub checkout their website for the bass demos some of them are very neat. http://www.svsubwoofers.com/faqs.htm m-mmeyer p.s. Yes 16hz shakes the living you know what right out of you.
