I currently have a RR2150 and am using it to power a pair of NHT SB-2 speakers. I am considering adding an LFM-2. The SB-2's claim to be +/- 3db from 51 to 22khz. I have been using the RR2150's speaker EQ feature to add +6db to the bottom end. I am considering adding the LFM-2 and phasing out the speaker EQ.

As additional background, this system is in the kitchen/family room. We spend a lot of time there and it is the area that we listen to music to most. This is primarily relaxed, casual listening. It is also the system my teenage daughters use when their friends are over (which is prety much daily). I have added the cables so they can hook-up their laptops to the RR2150's USB input or their IPODS using a docking cable. Finally, I added a Squeezebox so my wife can play all of our CDs.

I am looking for thoughts on this approach. Is it worthwhile or a waste of money considering the use?

If the sub would not be physically intrusive on the space, I suspect that it would be a worthwhile addition.

I ended up purchasing the SMS-1/LFM-1c combo. So far I have only received the LFM-1c. It is a worthwhile addition. The sound is much more full. Now I need to figure out a way on how to balance the sub with the rest of the system. As far as I can tell the RR2150 does not generate any test tones.

You'll need a test disc to calibrate the sub, or you can wait until the SMS-1 arrives and use its test tones to adjust sub trim and do the EQ'ing at the same time.

I was planning on putting the SMS-1 in my living room. So the only adjustments I will have are the RR2150's crossover point and the volume level on the LFM/1c.

Are you stating that I can use the SMS-1 on a temporary basis to generate the necessary frequencies to match the system and perhaps pick the best RR2150 x-over point? If so that is a lot better than buying a disk like the Rives Audio Test CD-2 for a 5 to 10 minute one time use?

If the SMS-1 isn't going to be paired with the sub, forget my earlier statement and go with a test tone disc...
