I want to use the auto setup for the speakers. I pushed the "tnr" button, pushed the "menu" above the "ch." The Bass setting shows up, not the main menu. I do not have the video connected. I onlu have a DVD/CD player and the tuner.

I looked at the manual and it doesn't indicate any way that the main menu can be displayed on the front panel display.I suspect that it can be viewed as an on screen display only.
If there is no way that you can connect a display,you might just try following the sequence of entries discribed on pages 26-28 in the user's manual. You won't be able to see what's going on, but I see no reason that the automatic setup wouldn't work.

The 990's setup menu is only available via the monitor outputs (composite, s-video, and component video - not DVI). It is not accessible via the front panel.
