Am I going nuts. I recently purchased the OPPO BD smile and also a new DVI to HDMI cable adapter from Blue Jeans Cable. smile
I went into the 990 menu and set the video config for the OPPO to DVI OPT 2.
The audio was fine. but I had no picture. frown I also set the menu primary output on the OPPO to HDMI.

I went to the OppO manual and the 990. I did not find anything in the OppO manual but in the 990 I found this

Because the Model 990’s on-screen display does not appear on the DVI
OUT jack, you should always use a component, S-Video, or composite video
connection in addition to the DVI connection

So my question is....my understanding of this is that even though I have the menus' on both the OPPO and the 990 set to....HDMI Primary output on the OPPO and DVI 1 on the 990 menu I still have to use a component cable.
Right now that is how I am able to receive a picture.
If this is wrong what am I doing WRONG to acquire a picture just using a DVI to HDMI connection on the 990 and OPPO? confused

Thanks

No. The note in the manual is because the 990's menu is not available via the DVI output, and you need a component, s-video, or composite video connection from the 990 to your TV in order to see the 990's setup menu. What you need to do when using the 990's DVI switching is to connect an (in your case) a DVI-to-M1 cable from the 990's DVI output to your projector. Once you do that, you need to have the BDP-83's output resolution set to something that works for your projector. You are probably best off setting it to 720p. You also need to make sure the projector is set to the M1 input.

Unrelated issue: you will want to hook up the BDP-83's multichannel analog output to the 990's 7.1 Direct input at some point.

Gonk I did not think that I had to use the component cable.
I orginally had the OPPO working with the the DVI. I do not know what the H__L I did after that. That old saying that if something is not broken do not try to fix it applies here.
I was messing with the menu in the OPPO.
I have a HDMI to DVI cable from the OPPO to the 990. From the 990 DVI 1 out I have a DVI out to the Infocus M1 port with a HDMI adapter.
The problem is in the menu settings.

I am going to work on the issue this morning.
Can I reset the OPPO to it's default menu?

Thanks

Make sure you still have the video priority set to HDMI in the BDP-83. You might also set the player's HDMI audio output to "off."

You can reset the BDP-83 to the factory defaults - there is an option under the "Device Setup" menu.

Gonk...I have reset the BDP-83....twice.
I will check out the audio output.

Here is a question? Comcast is on video 1 when I want to watch Comcast I press the video 1 button on the remote. Sony 777 is connected to DVD when I want to watch the sony I press the dvd button on the remote.
Now the OPPO is DVI/HDMI what source button do I
use since it is DVI. There is no button allowing me to select a source for the OppO since it is DVI.

I have been pressing the video 2 source button because that is where I had the former Sony 550 Stupid me!!
That is the problem I do not know how to enable a source for the OPPO since it is connected to the DVI input.

Thanks

The DVI inputs are handled in exactly the same was as component inputs - they can be assigned to any video input (DVD, Video 1 through Video 5, or 7.1 Direct). If you have the BDP-83 connected to the 7.1 Direct input, use the "7.1D" input button to select it just as you would with any other source. Assuming that both the Comcast box and the Sony 777 are using component video, you will also need to switch the projector to the DVI input when you change to 7.1 Direct.

Gonk Before I looked at your last entry I changed the source on video to 7.1. I have the OPPO set to HDMI using DVI 1 on the 990. The Infocus has a M1 port for DVI which I did buy an adaptor for and from there I have a HDMI/DVI cable from the 990 out to the Infocus.
I thought that the Infocus DVI input would work the same way as the component.
Enabling Video 1 starts Comcast
Video 2 Sony
and so on. The infocus should automaticlly switch to DVI should'nt it?

I checked the manual...it does not have the best instructions but I did not read anything about turning on the DVI input.

Thanks for your patience but I do appreciate all of your help trying solve this problem.

Frank

I've never used a projector, but none of the displays I've used have included any automatic input selection. The Infocus remains in a single input (a component video input) when you change from Video 1 to Video 2 because the 990 provides the video switching. When you change to the 7.1 Direct input, the 990 starts using its DVI output instead of its component video output, and at that point you must manually change inputs on the TV (in this case your projector) so that it is displaying the DVI input instead of the component input.
