Yea, I did go in and change the setting to DTS. The Sony has two settings, one for Dolby Digital and one for DTS. They were both orginally set to PCM and I changed them to the DD and DTS settings. Maybe it's a one or the other situation? I'll have to play around with the Sony some more tonight. As far as the "PCM" reference, I ment the 5.1 outputs on the Sony.
Thanks Richard R

I'm confused... how can the 1050 matrix out a surround channel when using the 5.1 inputs? I thought the 1050 did all its matrix decoding in the digital domain, and I thought the 5.1 inputs bypassed the A-D-A conversion, so that they could be used with high resolution formats like DVD-A and SACD without mucking up the signal. Am I missing something?

Success! I disconnected my 5.1 analog out cables along with the audio left/right which I had hooked up to a RF modulator so I could watch DVD's on the upstairs TV. Must have been some type of conflict in the Sony. DTS is nice. Thanks for the help. Richard R [This message has been edited by Richard_R (edited January 25, 2002).]

So in order for the 6.1 to work, you have to have a direct feed from the DVD Player to the 1050? No Optical Cables used?

Now that I have everthing working, I'm going to try the 6.1 feature on the DTS ES signal coming into the 1050 via the 5.1 direct. I wonder how much it will add to the listening experience and what the 1050 will show on the display screen: DTS, Prologic or something else? God, I love to tinker!

I just ordered the 1050 and hopefully it will be here tomm. My DVD player Pany Rp56 does not have 5.1 out, so i won't be able to get 6.1 on DTS tracks?
What DVD players have 5.1 out so i could get DTS 6.1, or is there another option?

Potus, I was considering the RP56 because I just got a 65" RPTV and the Sony is not progressive scan but I didn't realize it didn't have the 5.1 outs. So it probably doesn't decode DD or DTS. I guess you can't have everything for $230. I've heard a lot of good things about the RP56. Best bang for the buck.

There are a fair number of DVD players around with 5.1 outputs, but a lot of them only decode Dolby Digital internally -- so you still wouldn't be able to get DTS 6.1. The Panasonic RP-91 will decode DTS internally, but it's the only Panasonic player I'm aware of that will. I glanced at Toshiba's site and couldn't find any players that decode DTS internally. Similar results from Pioneer's site, and I couldn't even find one in Sony's current line-up that clearly said it had internal DTS decoding (the DVP-NS700P may, but it's not clear). Basically, internal DTS decoding is rare, although it is a standard feature for players to be able to pass a DTS signal to the digital output. Most people are turning to the receiver or pre/pro to get DTS-ES capability. ------------------ Gonk
