I got a new set of xlr cables today (never used the xlr connections on my 990 before) and there is no sound from the left speaker. I switched the cables around and i get the same result. I also sent the right signal to the left channel of my amp to make sure the problem wasn't coming from the amp and it worked fine.

any ideas?

Thanks, Mike

What amp are you using? If it is a 7700/7500, there is a switch on the back of the amp to tell it to use the balanced signals...

My amp is made by innersound and there is not a switch for the different connections. I just checked to make sure.

correction to my previous post - there is sound coming from the left speaker - it is just so much lower than the right that i didn't even notice it at first. When i went into the settings to calibrate the channels, I had to put the left front speaker up by 15 db to even out the sound. this does not happen when i use rca connectors.

I just want to clarify here..you DO get sound through the left amp channel when you send the right balanced output of the 990 to the left channel?

As long as you have also eliminated the cable as the problem by having sound go through each of them succesfully, then it seems you have narrowed the trouble down to the balanced outpuit from the left channel of the 990.

Btw..I just bought a pair of XLR cables to hook my 990 up to a power amp as well. I was just about to go hook them up. I'll let you know if I have any troubles with mine.

I also bought those cables at a music store..one that sells musical instruments and DJ equipment, rather than a high end or audio video store. They had quite a selection of balanced cables at prices that put the cable prices at most audio video and electronic retailers to shame.

yes, i get sound through the left amp channel when i send the right balanced signal to it. I realize now that i am getting a low level sound through the left channel. it doesn't sound distorted or anything, but why would the two channels be so different?
