Hey all,
I have been a happy 990 owner for approx 2 years now, just installed firmware update yesterday, first one. Now it shows 3.24. While doing this I decided to now incorporate a 6 X 2 HDMI switch and also keep my 4 X 2 component switch.

I have the following equipment in my setup.
2 tv's, projector and a 50 inch DLP, hence the 2 out switchers.
Cable box-HDMI video, coax 1 audio
Blue ray-HDMI video, 5.1 analog and coax 2 audio.
X Box 360-HDMI video, opt 1 audio.
PS3-HDMI video, opt 2 audio.
HD DVD-HDMI video, opt 3 audio
CD-opt 4 audio
Nintendo WII-component video, analog audio

All 5 HDMI's will be going to the 6 X 2 HDMI switcher in, and both HDMI out to tv and projector.
The nintendo Wii will be going to the 4 X 2 component switcher in, and both out to tv and projector.

All audio only will be going to 990 as listed above. The Marantz VS3002 switcher picks up whichever device is turned on so will not have to touch it unless switcher outputs from tv to projector. The keydigital component is matrix and the only device is the Wii so that will never be touched. The input on the tv will be swithed from HDMI to component only when the Wii is used, not very much.

I am in the process right now of running all my new cables, what a job, should take a few nights to complete.

Question is I will have nothing running from the 990 to the tv which I think I need for the menu. I read the manual but I am not sure how the best way to do it is. Do I run a say componet or s video cable from the 990, not sure which output to one of the tv's empty inputs, say component 2, since I am using component 1? Will any output on the 990 work, say use component out on the 990 to the tv so I can get the menu. Will the 990 output the menu when I hit the menu buttom if I have a sinle cable from component out to
the tv?

Also what analog audio should I use for the nentendo Wii, does it matter?

Also just wondering what everyone thinks of how I am settng up the 2 swtichers, any advice appriciated.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Also I see the update lets you rename the audio. Not sure I understand this either. It it now says opt 1, what would you want to change that to other then calling it opt 1?

Confused.

Thanks again.

Yes. I'd suggest running the Wii through the 990, then run the 990's component output into the component switcher. That gives you a component video connection that can cover both the Wii and the 990's menus.

If you use my idea from above, you'll want to use one of the rear video inputs so you can assign a component video input to it.

Since you have seven devices connected but only one that might want to use the 990's video switching, here's an example that could work:

  • DVD: Label "Blu-ray", assign coax2 audio
  • Video1: Label "Cable", assign coax1 audio
  • Video2: Label "Wii", assign analog audio and component-video1 (although you can use any of the three component inputs)
  • Video3: Label "XBox360", assign opt1 audio
  • Video4: Label "PS3", assign opt2 audio
  • Video5: Label "HD-DVD", assign opt3 audio
  • 7.1 Direct: no changes needed, can't edit name
  • CD: leave name "CD", assign op4 audio

Aside from needing to have the Wii on either DVD or Video1 through Video4 (so you can have a rear ananlog input paired with one of the component inputs), those can be shuffled around at will.

"Opt1" is the digital input. "CD" (as an example) is the input name, which you can change to say something else (like "CD Changer" or "iPod").

Thanks so much again for the help gonk. If I want to watch a Blue Ray disc, I turn on the 990 and the Blue ray disc player, the HDMI switcher senses the Blue ray, chooses the right HDMI output, but it will also choose the coax 2 for audio, how do I choose the 7.1? Do I edit the name to say Blue Ray and maybe choose say DVD for using the coax. I will only use the coax for SD DVD's and 7.1 for Blue Ray. Not sure I understand as I have never used the 7.1, I am about to hook it up tonight.
Thanks!!

Hey gonk,

Also I don't see any video 5 on the worksheet on page 19 of the 990's manual. If I remember, on the remote it has video 1 thru 5 and then DVD, correct?
Thanks again.

Just took a look at a picture of the remote and now I think I see what you are saying.

If you are watching a Blu-ray disc in your Blu-ray player, you will need to select the 7.1 Direct input on the 990 (the "7.1D" button on the 990's remote) in order to get the multichannel analog output from the player. In the scheme I described above, you could also select the DVD input on the 990 and get the coaxial digital output (which would be the preferred solution for DVD's and CD's).

Video 5 is the front input, but it can be assigned to any digital audio, component video, or DVI video input on the 990's rear panel.
