...I know you can use the 1050 receiver with one of the more powerful Outlaw amps but can you use one of the newer Outlaw PrePros (990/970) powered by the amp in the 1050 receiver???

you can use a separate preamp with the power amp section of any receiver that has an external power amp input.

A receiver with multichannel analog inputs can be used as a power amp, but unless it has "mains in" connections (like the RR2150 does) you have to make sure the receiver is on the correct input and you have to calibrate the system with the receiver at a specific volume setting. It's a slightly cumbersome approach.

The main problem with this approach in the specific case of the 1050 and an Outlaw processor is the remote. The 1050 will respond to many of the remote commands sent to the 950, 970, or 990. That includes input commands and volume control. You would basically have to "blind" the 1050's IR sensor (cover it with something) and either leave it on all the time or turn it on manually.
