I'm considering an Ultracurve Pro 8024 for equalizing my 2 subwoofers. I have an amazing room resonance that needs to be tamed if I'm to get good LF response. I ONLY want the 8024 for the subwoofers. So it would be 990 subwoofer out => 8024 => subwoofers. The problem is that the 8024 is a prosound device that needs +21 dBu (~8.7V) for digital full scale. Consumer analog output is more like 1V. Can I just manually adjust the woofer output to +15 dB (max), and crank it back down on the subwoofers? I have a good sound measuring system to monitor the adjustments.

Any insights appreciate.

That is an awfully expensive DI box. You should be able to get one for around $30. I've got one that converts impedance, 40db attenuator, and a ground lift switch. All for $30. It a Rolls DB25. I use it when I have to run a computer into a mixer or vice versa. Also, the Behringer has a 16db gain within the unit. Both reviews that I read about it didn't mention needing a DI box.

The Ultracurve unit is a nice one. We had one in the theater I worked for. We did a lot of musicals, so it was great for managing a lot of microphones. But I don't suspect you'll be producing musicals in your house. It has a lot capabilities and can give you some flexibility in the future.

My system uses active crossovers, so yes, I use equalization to replace the "voicing" which would normally be performed by the passive crossover network in a conventional speaker.

The equalizers I use are line level units I designed around the specific frequencies I need to accomplish the tuning I want. They use passive L-C-R filtering. The only commercial EQ is a 1/3rd octave Behringer analog unit I use only for the subwoofers.

After nearly a full day with the 990, 8024 and my measuring system, I was able to tame a truly awesome 50 Hz room resonance. Deep base response is much improved.
