my 990 is hooked up to my blu ray player using 7.1 analog and dvi. how come to get video picture i must first press 7.1 input on my 990 and then press dvd input on the 990 in order to get both the audio and video?

my 990 7.1 video source is set to dvi 1 which is what the blu ray is connected to so i don't understand why i must press dvd in order to get the picture. if i don't press dvd i only get audio, and besides i thought dvd source does not accept 7.1 analog as an input at all.

what am i missing?

Gooomz,

My outlaw gear hasn't been delivered yet, but I've been reading the 990 manual online in preparation. Your problem sounds like it could be an input assignment. I assume you were using a different audio input with your DVD player prior to buying the BD player. Now the DVD player needs to have 7.1 analog assigned as the audio input. It probably has a digital audio input assigned now. Just a guess on my part, but maybe this will help you find the problem.

Regards,
Bill

7,1 analog is not an assignable audio input.
you can only use 7.1 analog audio when in 7.1 source mode which means when in dvd source mode i should not be getting any sound at all. 7.1 audio is not an audio option for dvd input. that is what is confusing.

right not everything works and i know i might be a little slow but i just don't understand what could be causing my issue.

What video are you getting when you press 7.1D? I assume that you are getting something, right? Also, are you using the 990's remote or a third-party universal like a Harmony or URC?

when i press 7.1 source i get the 7.1 audio from my blu ray but no picture at all. just a black screen. then, when i press dvd source i get picture and i continue to get the 7.1 audio. could this be a glitch or something?

i tried using the 990 remote and i also used the harmony 1000 remote.

After you press the DVD source button, you lose the 7.1 analog input so you're likely getting audio via optical or coaxial at that point. If you press "7.1D" again right after that, do you lose video again?

If it were my system, here are the things I'd check:

  • Verify that the Blu-ray video input is going to DVI1 (and not DVI2, for example).
  • Verify that the DVI output is connected to the TV.
  • Verify that the TV is on that specific HDMI or DVI input.
  • Verify that the 7.1 Direct input on the 990 is set to the DVI1 video input (again, and not DVI2, for example).
  • Compare it to the settings for the DVD input (which cannot use the 7.1 Direct audio input but can use the same video input).

I asked about the remote because of item 3 on that list - wanted to make sure the TV hadn't gotten switched to the wrong input via a macro of some sort.
