I was just curious if anyone has tried different power cables with the 990 and whether or not it made much of a difference and if so, if there are any recommendations?

My recommendation - stick with the supplied power cable. In all honesty, you are likely to find more "benefit" by replacing the pole transformer which serves your house with a higher capacity one than changing your 990's power cord.

A buddy of mine has the 990 and so do I.While he uses a Nordost after market one, Iuse the stock one that came in the box.

To my ears there was no difference when we did and A/B test.

If you search around the web you will probably get a majority of responses the same way.

I'm using the MIT Z-Cord-II with the 990 and Magnum AC-1 with the 7500. Both work well and help filter AC noise.

A dedicated noise filter such as the ones built into TrippLite power strips works even better (and is cheaper).

I know the benefit of these power cords are debateable but this power cord looks really bad ass. It was only $20 + shipping so time ago so I figured why not.

I think a friend of mine stated it best:

"I have often thought how ridiculous it is when people try to claim that the electrical current that has passed through miles of standard transmission line into your house, and through the tens if not hundreds of feet of standard copper wire from your main panel box to the outlet is somehow altered by passing through 3 feet of aftermarket power cable.

I often wonder why if they believe the claims that they make they are not pissed that they could spend as much money as they do on an amp/receiver/prepro/etc and tolerate the OEM degrading the performance of the product by selling it with an inferior power cord."

I'm of the group that believes replacing power cords will not gain anything in performance. But I also believe that if, like JayDee, you like the cosmetics of a new power cord and it fits your budget, that's a reason to replace the power cord. I do suggest that the new power cord be of the same or larger gauge as the original to avoid degrading performance or creating a potential electrical hazard.

My power cords are usually tucked away out of sight. Otherwise, opting for something other than the plain, drab, black power cord might be of greater interest.
