I have written about rack-mounting in the past. Not right for most, but when it is, the results and convenience are really worth it.
I bought the MIDDLE ATLANTIC 990 rack/shelf. Absolutely perfect. The panel occupies five rack spaces (8.75 inches). The holes are at correct spacing. The platform is quite strong and projects a bit past the back of the 990. There are holes, thru which I routed some wiring at the back.
The only downside (no way around this one) is that the front INPUT VID 5 is cumbersone to use because I feed from within the rack I a regular 19 inch rack.
