No problems here.. just a quick comment on how easy and how excellent the audio sounds while watching a Blu Ray movie with DTS Master Audio.

I already had the 6 RCA cables in use from an old SACD/DVD-A player.. so I removed that player and hooked up the Panny BD player and within just a few minutes I was listening and watching Band Of Brothers in pure 1080 picture and DTS MA sound.

After watching a few episode of the excellent series Band Of Brothers, I then played a standard definition DVD movie. Let me tell you, the sound was so compessed, it was easy to tell that the sound wasn't as clear, or clean.

The only drawback to going with a BD player is that movies are still very expensive to buy. Ranging from $16 to $29 for one movie eek
So with this format i'll be mostly renting instead of buying.

For anyone looking to make the jump to Blu, let me tell you it's worth it.

Of course the reason I went with the Panny BD55 was of course for the 7.1 analog outputs it has. The lower prices units do not have them.. and if you're using the Outlaw 990 pre amp, you'll need the analog outs on the Blu player. laugh

The Sony BDP S550 has the 7.1 outs and I think is slightly less than the panny but that was my other choice when looking at BD players.

Very cool.. how do you like your Sony BDP 550? I think either player would be a good choice with the 990 pre. smile

I've only had it since Wednesday and have fully watched only 2 movies but I like it, more than I thought I would. I was skeptical about the difference in both PQ and SQ but I was impressed.

A couple "minor" things that bother me is load time on some discs and on some discs when you "stop" the disc it will not "resume" but will start over from the beginning. I've read that this is a disc situation and I would say so as it seems about 50% of the discs I tried would "resume". I hoping future FW updates may alleviate that situation.

But I am very happy with my purchase and very glad I didn't wait for the next gen pre/pro to go BD.

Definitely an issue with most Blu-ray players. My Panasonic BD30 is respectable but clearly not fast when compared to the familiar world of DVD.

I'm afraid that you're not likely to see firmware revisions improve this. The problem is that many Blu-rays authored with Java simply don't allow any sort of resume function. The player can't override that because it relates to how the disc functions at a most basic level. One rather glaring drawback to BD-J, to be honest...

As usual thanks gonk. At least I'm in the same boat as everyone else.

I just ordered the panny 55k and 8 cables to connect the sound. Do I need to adjust speaker levels in the panny now or does the 990 still control speaker lever and delay?

The 990 will handle all that. On the BD55, leave distances and trim settings at zero, leave speakers set to large (plus "on" for the sub), and let the 990 handle it all.
