I was going to hold off on a BD player but broke down and got the Sony BDP S550 this week. Hooked it up via HDMI directly to the TV and the 7.1 analog audio. Fantastic sound via the 990!

If you have wanted to go BD but were waiting for a new pre/pro don't wait, you'll get great audio from your 990.

What are your setting at 990? Any speaker un-balance issue? Tks.

I don't quite understand the question.

I didn't change any speaker calibrations on the 990 and have everything set to 0 and speakers large on the S550. No apparent speaker un-balance issues if I understand you.

You had answered part of my question, telling me the speakers settings (db =1/+0 and large), but how about the settings at 990? There are quite a few emails complainng un-even balance of speakers, especiall the sub-woofer, when using 7.1 analogy out from S550. I got problem with the center channel....the dialog is not clear and not open up. The center channel open up and clear when I switch back to coaxial or toslink digital input (instead of 7.1 analoy input) fron S-550. Didn't you notice it?

Sorry but I've noticed no such problems. Dialogue is fine. Is there a particular movie you are finding this on?

I occasionally turn the gain up on my sub but that is because of personal preference.

The speaker settings on the 990 were calibrated with the test tones and a Radio Shack analog SPL meter. They would be different for every environment.

I would check the connections and make sure everything is solid and tight.

I just thought of something that is very important. On the S550 make sure you have the default setting under "Audio Output" at Multi Channel analog. Otherwise you will not be getting the multi-channel output from the player.

I just purchased the Samsung BD-P2550 which has 7.1 analog audio outputs and both BD live and netflix streaming. Does anyone have a compareison of this to the Sony 550? I have till New Years to return it for the Sony or Panasonic 55.
