Hm.. I think I might pick up the Integra 9.8 pre/pro. Looks to have just about everything the next gen 990 is going to have.

Any reason not to?

We don't have final specs on the 990's replacement so it's hard to say exactly how they stack up, but I would agree that the feature sets should be pretty similar. There is also an Onkyo version of the 9.8 (the 885) - both are derived from the Onkyo 905 receiver. Be sure to get the latest firmware, as it fixes a problem with intermittent "bombs" in some DTS-HD Master Audio tracks.

The 9.8 and 885 are pretty popular, both because they represented the first HDMI v1.3 processors in existence when they arrived last year and because they packed a lot of features into a single chassis.

One cautionary note, I recall hearing of some heat-related problems with this unit. You may want to investigate that further before you lay out the cash.

I have been saving my lose change and recently (July 1st)celebrated a birthday and stashed my presents in a safe place.(Never know when the wife wants a new pair of shoes)
I presently have the 990/7700combo and enjoy it very much. At this writing I have not updated the firmware. Chicken I guess.
I am interested in the new processor that Outlaw is suppose to be coming out with in the not to distant future. Looking at the features on the Integra 9.8 pre/pro if the new Outlaw has the same package holly molly. Bing, bang, boom.
Does anyone had any idea when Outlaw will be breaking the good news? Will it be in comparison to the Integra or have more accessories.
What would be a fair price to sell the 990? Not a mark on it.
I heard Outlaws' price will be in the neighborhood of $1500 for the new processor.

I wish Peter T. or Scotty would jump on this post.

Avoid the integra, it will only be good for surround and it will SUCK for music. All the new stuff sucks for music.

No word in when we're likely to see details (either features or arrival time). A 990 replacement is likely to have similar video scaling (maybe not Reon, but something fairly comparable I'd expect) and I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of room correction. And of course the decoding features will need to be the same, although I doubt an Outlaw will be THX (licensing fees are too high and benefits are too limited).
